I have the exact same problem. I only just received the camera 2 days ago, after using it for only 3/4 hours or so the camera refuses to switch on. Before it stopped working when I turned it off the switch seemed to be jammed ever so slightly,a sort of gritty feel to it,when I attempted to power it up nothing happened after that. I think whats wrong with the camera is a connection in the power switch has broken leaving it useless until repair where i'm just preparing my camera to be sent away for.
I have a Fuji S9600 which seems to have a faulty On/Off dial. When swithing the camera on, the playback screen is displayed without any problem. However when selecting the picture taking mode, the LCD or view finder becomes a very faint grey colour and is dimly illuminated. When switching the camer off, this grey screen still remains until the batteries run out! The only way to switch off completely is to open the battery compartment. has anyone any ideas?

I have a Fujifilm S9600 for just over a year and it has been well looked afterit was not dropped and was working the day before. For some unknown reason it has stopped working and will not turn on anyone help?

Same problem and out of the blue my s9600 wouldn't switch on regardles of power source. The camera was less than 1 month past the 12 month warranty, and I was furious. I contacted the Fuji repair centre after reading a few similar reports expecting to have to make a complaint. They offered to look at the camera and would extend the warranty if the problem was not user abuse. To my astonishment they repaired the camera F.O.C as it was an issue with the 'top cover' which they replaced. Top marks to their repair team, as I would consider that excellent customer service. Many manufacturers would bang on about being out of warranty and end up losing customers. Most companies still don't get the British way of complaining to their detriment.
Might be a batch problem with the 'Top Cover' (still unsure what part they mean) but it is worth enquiring with Fuji.
