My Olympus U tough 8000, has gone from working perfectly fine one moment to now saying "card error" and instructing me to remove the card and wipe with a dry cloth. All of which i have tried and it makes no difference. Any Ideas, is the whole thing stuffed or will it just need a new micro card?

With this error code that you're getting it's either the card slot that is failing or the card itself is unreadable. I suggest that you either try a different memory card first. If it's not available, use a card reader and insert this memory card to it and then connect it to the computer. If it can be read by the computer most likely it's the card slot on the camera that is having shoes. But then again it's better to test first another memory card on this camera.
Hope this helps.

Software is unable to find Olympus Digital camera connected to USB port

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

Olympus Tough 8000 wont charge

Rechargeable batteries will fail if stored for long periods in a partly charged or in a zero charge state.
You need to replace this battery with a new one.

The camera hit the floor once and now everytime I try to take another picture or delete a picture it will show "Write Protect". I made sure the lock on the SD card was unlocked and it STILL...

Go into the menu and try to find "reset" to get back to factory default settings. If you can't, try this...remove the card and battery...press every button....leave it alone for 20 minutes....insert the battery and the card....turn it on.
