I inherited a Smith Corona Deville III Messenger Typewriter. It powers up but seems to have the carriage locked in place and trying to move it. Is there a user guide somewhere that I can look at?

I solved the immediate problem -- special packing bars to keep the carriage in place during transport. Still looking for a manual, though.

Smith Corona se100 print head travels to extreme left, buzzes then powers down.

It sounds like there may be an issue with the print head carriage on your Smith Corona SE100 typewriter. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:
  1. Check for any obstructions: Make sure that there are no obstructions blocking the print head carriage from moving freely. If there are any obstructions, remove them carefully.
  2. Clean the print head carriage: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the print head carriage and ensure it is clean and free of any dust or debris.
  3. Check the power supply: Make sure that the typewriter is properly plugged in and receiving power. Check the power cord and outlet for any issues.
  4. Try resetting the typewriter: Turn off the typewriter and unplug it from the power source for a few minutes. Then, plug it back in and turn it on again to see if the issue has resolved.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, it may be a more serious issue with the print head carriage or other internal components. In that case, it may be best to take the typewriter to a professional repair shop or contact the manufacturer for assistance.

Smith Corona 235 DLE doesn't advance

Does the platen move or does the paper not advance? Check the paper release lever to make sure the feed wheels are snapped in place. If the platen does not move something in the paper feed motor area.
