Dvd rom not reading dvd while reading cd properly!!!

Hey pls help me to know abot toshiba sd r2512
it is reading cds but not dvds.
is it required any other software.
when i click on drives
its does not show any file in dvd.
while properly working
in cds.

The demands on the drive differ greatly for reading CDs & DVDs.
This is a common problem since alignment of the drive is very critical for DVDs and often fails first.

I don't offer much hope, but you might buy a special disk for cleaning optical drives; sometimes they will help.

Try the DVD disk in some other computer, to ensure that the disk itself is OK.
Try some other "known-good" DVD-disk in your Toshiba SD M1502 drive.

Or, spend $40 and purchase a brand-new, CD/DVD reader/writer, to replace the faulty device.

Upgrade CD/DVD ROM to CD-RW/DVD ROM

I just replaced my original CD/DVD ROM with a Toshiba SD-R2512 CD-RW/DVD ROM in my 1805-S253 running Windows ME. I used "Roxio Easy CD Creator" for writing to CD's. Everything was "plug'n'play" except the bezel that came with the new drive had to be swapped out. Windows ME recognized the new drive immediately and I didn't have to load any new drivers. This upgrade will probably work on other 1800 or 1805 Satellite series machines.

I have a Toshiba dvd-rom SDS-R2412 in my fujitsu siemens laptop. have no problem burning cds but can not burn dvds. can you help please

Sorry, but this device does not burn DVDs. It just reads them.

It is a DVD ROM drive which stands for DVD Read Only Memory. In other words, this drive is meant to only PLAY DVDs and CDs but NOT save data to them.

To burn CDs you need a CD burner. Burners are of 3 types:

CD writer only burns and reads CDs.

Combo drive reads CDs and DVDs but only burns CDs.

Super drive burns and reads from CDs and DVDs.

As you go higher in functionality, the price also increases. Check your needs before you plan to buy one. Also compare prices of all the drives. Note: burn-able media costs are separate.

After I reinstalled my pc, the toshiba dvd-rom (sd-c2502) only plays cds, not dvds.

Try re-installing your the driver for your dvd rom. Then try to put different dvds and check if it can read from your drive. If problem remains, I suspected it's your dvd rom is faulty

Burning DVD

Impossible, since your device _reads_ CDs/DVDs, but does not _write_ either CD nor DVD.

Do you have a USB memory-stick (holding 4Gbytes) ?
If so, copy the files to the memory-stick,
and take the memory-stick to your friend's computer,
presuming that his/her computer has a DVD-writer.
That DVD can be _read_ on your computer.

Dvd runs cd doesnt

in your case ,this may be due to two reasons...
1)your reading lens may be having some defects like only responding to dvd`s and not cd`s
2)the cd`s that u used may have been written using digital burning security.......
try the same drive in your freinds computer also and check it out

Your CD "Burn" laser or "Quadrant Detector" has "Faulted" a very common occurrence for these "Combo" drives,...So..I'm sorry but ya gonna haveta get another... as these ya can't fix. :(
