Question about Sony DCR-TRV 460 Digital 8 Mini Camcorder Pal system

1 Answer

Loading the cassette tapes in my sony dcr trv 460 camcorder is the problem. The tape loads, i push it down in there, and it will not retract the tape back into the camera. Not the tapes. I dropped it, but can visually see no damage to the device. I mean the cheap *** usb cord caught it, then my foot caught it, then it hit the floor. An suggestions?

caring not to destroy the eject lock mechanism

The tape carrage wont load the tapes but it will go into the load position without.

I have a sony cam myself. If the cam is empty, you open the outer door(swings out), and the load/unload mechanism rises up and pops open allowing tape insertion. When a cassette is placed into the mechanism, you press where it says "push" and then the drive pulls the tape down and into the unit. Then the outer door is closed and you're ready to tape. IF YOU PUSH DOWN ON THE TAPE WHILE IT'S BEING PULLED INTO THE UNIT IT WILL STRIP GEARS INSIDE. The gears are made of nylon to prevent serious damage to motors and other circuitry. This transport setup cannot be forced at all. If any type of mis-alignment occurs, the mechanism is supposed to stop and back up--allowing the problem to be corrected. If it is damaged, the cam must be repaired. There is critical timing involved in replacing the tape carriage.---Rick

Viewing SONY 8mm Tapes -- Please help

The older tapes were shot on a 8mm camcorder and the camcorder you have wil not play them becasue it doesn't have backwards compatability with the older format. The tapes you recorded are on a digital 8 camcorderr and it is different encoding than the one you recorded the other 60 tapes with. You will need to find either a dcr-trv 350 trv 530 trv 730 ect as these have the ability to play all the tapes.
Or find an older 8mm camcorder to play your tapes with.
Hope this helps
