This smoke is actually condensation formed by having a humid room meeting the cold dry air. This is not a problem and does not pose a threat. Similar to the effect when you open your fridge or more obvious your freezer. Just temperature and humidity differances causing this.

Kennmore combo window unit will not blow hot air what could be the problem

That all depends on the model number of the unit you own. Some window units have electric resistance heat (like a toaster), where others are a heat pump. Even other models have heat pump ability, with added backup resistance heat.

Then again it could be a settings problem. Ifd the unit is not set in the right mode, and the thermostat is not set correctly, the unit may operate and not produce heat.

2004 Chrysler Voyager, had an acrid burning smell and a lot of smoke when heater is turned on, also a rattling/squealing noise, all stops when heater turned off?

you more than likely have a sciezed air con compressor. most modern cars have climate control which uses air con even when demisting and when engaged the electric clutch tries to engage but the pump itself will not turn, clutch will get red hot and burn your belts

My kenmore window unit AC started blowing a white smoke like substance. It seems to be cooling fine. What is this and is it a concern?

The two things it could be, #1 - evaporator leaking refrigerant - unlikely if unit is still cooling o.k. because window units do not hold a lot of refrigerant and if there is a leak bad enough to blow smoke it would have stopped cooling by now. #2 - the humidity is high and the unit has cooled the air right at the discharge down below the dewpoint, a common occurence in window units and automobiles due to the short duct distance from the evaporator to the air outlet whereas with central air systems having longer duct systems the air gains more heat before being discharged into the room.

Window unit ''smoking''

Hi,
Under certain conditions the "smoke" will form because of humidity in the air....it is nothing to worry about and in fact tells you that the unit is working very well...

Smoke is coming out of the a/c

Ice probably formed on the outside of the unit and the a/c is working to defrost itself. Check out this page: http://andysair.blogspot.com/2010/01/looks-like-smoke-is-coming-out-of-my.html

Frigidaire window unit with heat and a/c smoke & burning smells

Hi, Anytime you turn a unit on like this and it smells and smokes, something is wrong. Did it smell as though it was electrical burning? Usually the blower motor is the first motor to go as they collect all of the return air and dust from the air and clog up the windings. They get hot and start to smoke, and you will know due to the smell of electrical wiring. I would turn it back on and see if it starts up and runs. If the motor hesitates in anyway, turn it off, or unplug it.If it is wired directly into a box, find out where the breaker is. If you are in fear of it catching on fire, call a air conditioning company out. I have seen them smoke like crazy but never had one catch on fire, never. I would turn it on, it will trip the breaker if the motor fails. Just watch it closely. If you can pull the front cover off and then turn it on, you may be able to see where the smoking is coming from, a motor ect.
Sincerely,

I have a carrier unit and the inside unit comes on, but the outside fan does not come on...my neighbor said they saw smoke... but no burn marks....anywhere... do you think it is freon or???

The unit may have a blown capacitor which helps the fan start up. The smoke may have come from inside the motor. Best to check the capacitor on the unit see where its at then we can see more. Did the Circuit breaker blow?

Goodman model cpe30-1ab heat pump fan not turning. Air is coming in. I have a call into the repairman, just want to get a headsup. At one point I saw smoke coming out of the unit.

usually if the fan failed the heater will overheat maybe the smoke you saw was coming from the heater. Let the repairman to repair the fan.

Air conditioner

Hi!!

It not uncommon for the condenser motor to blow out, if evertything else is ok. The unit will kick in normally and you'll start getting cold air inside. Since the condenser is not doing its job, the unit's thermal protection will cut off compressor until cools down and then will start again.

Replace condenser motor (around $100) ASAP and do not use unit until then, othewise, major damage to the unit can occur.

Air Conditioner Smoke

The smoke you are seeing is the cold air turning the hot humid air into a cool mist. This may happen when you first run the a/c to cool the room. Once the room is cooled down you should not see the mist any more.
