My emerson 20 inch flat screen tv is encased in a dog house for outdoor use. I can't get to the back to see the model number and I want to buy a remote control for it. Is there a universal emerson remote for all 20 inch models (about 5 years old) that I can buy

You didn't list your model number, but I seriously doubt that any Emerson branded television features Bluetooth.

First locate a manual on the Emerson site and download.
You need to change to 'input' to the TV by selecting the 'source' on the AV button.

does the digital television come up on the screen for a second then it goes black? If so its usually the inverter which has the issue.

You should be able to get a replacement stand from www.tvrepairworld.com

Hope the dog is well. Best to go to hardware store and buy a plug to replace yourself. Is it two wires, or three? Is it round or flat cable? Also if this is a continuos problem you might want to get a length of metal clad cable to put over the cord before you put the new plug on.

i had the same problem with a 32 inch and i kept "clicking" the channel changer on the remote to force the tv to go to another channel (that had previously been selected during the initial auto scan) --- still trying to figure out why the tv locks onto the scanning for channel
