My flat screen emerson television is in standby mode but the power light is not on what could it be
Hi.
What has most likely happened is that you have a capacitor/capacitors that have failed.
This is a very common occurrence with flat screen tv's and monitors.
This is because the parts that go into the screens aren't always as good of quality as they should be.
Capacitor failure is by far the leading complaint amongst flat screen tv and monitor owners.
I would take the tv to Fry's or BestBuy, have them ive it a good look-over, and get an estimate of costs before having it done.
I say that, because capacitor repairs can sometimes be as much, if not more than the cost of buying a new tv.
It may not, but if you get an estimate, you can then look around and see if any stores have new tv's for around the same price.
If they do, then I would just buy a new one, as then you would have a warranty to back up any repairs.
I hope this helps you out, and good luck!

SOURCE: I have an Emerson HD digital TV model LC195EMX,
The indication of the standby light shows that the sub power circuit is functioning alright. Now on depressing the switch on power if there is no reaction then the main processor is getting an errror message for no switching. If you are getting any click and shut off then there is a power short/ fault in the HT circuit which requires further probe. You can check the main fuses and for dry soldering joints/ loose connectors in the main PCB, if all this is fine, I suggest you get help but ask your technician to give you an insight if the fault is in the control, main power (SMPS) or the HT. I hope this adivce helps. Good day.
