ASI TPL WL TLWA701ND 150Mbps AP Wireless Adapter Logo
Anonymous Posted on Mar 23, 2011

Hi, I bought a TP-Link TL-WA701ND (Wireless Lite N Access Point) today, and am having troubles getting it to work. The Quick Installation Quide gives directions for Windows operating systems XP and Vista only however I have Windows 7. Is it compatible with Windows 7 and if so, how do I set it up to run as a wireless range expander? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

You must setup manually your acces point. First go to control panel, under network and internet you'll find a task, view network status and tasks click on it and in next page go to change adapter settings, find local area connection and right click on it and go to properties, in next window highlight internet protocol tcp/ip then click on properties in next window click on use the folowing ip adress and write in ip adress box an ip from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.253 at your choice in subnet mask box just leave 255.255.255.0 (this apear when you click in these box). Now connect your acces point to the computer via network cable. Then open your internet browser and type in adress box http://192.168.1.254 and hit enter, a pop up will apear and ask for user name and password, write admin in both boxes user and password and hit enter, after that you will be able to manually configure your acces point and setup a name and password for your wireless network, change your user and password for acces your device. Good luck!

    Hi cristi_mc,
Thanks for the instructions however I'm now stuck at the point where i typehttp://192.168.1.254 into the address bar. At this point explorer tells me "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" as opposed to asking for the user name and password.
I did also notice that I may be required to enter a preferred and/or alternative DNS server address after the Subnet mask default field populates. If so, do you know what the DNS address is or where I get it from?
    Thanks again, much appreciated!

Did you connect your acces point via cable to your computer? If not, you'll not be able to connect via wireless. Tell me if it's working!

If you are using this with POE, there have been complaints that Ethernet links over 15 metres or poor cable quality can cause this effect.
Also there are warnings in the manual about keeping it clear of electrical RF interference which may also cause this effect.

Cant conect more than one computer on d-link

Marko, there are several operation modes that your access point supports, make sure that you have selected the appropriate mode for your network. For example if you have several wireless devices connecting to the internet through this access point, select Multi-SSID. You can review the following manual and see which mode is relevant to your network.

Need help on my TP-LINK TL-WR740N 150Mbps Wireless Lite N Router. just finished its setup then i notice that i can't access a certain website.

Here's a GuessYa. Make sure you have the correct and exact DNS servers. If you screw them up, you'll be able to get cached pages, but new pages or functions will crash. It's a funny thing when you find it for the first time :-)
