I am referring to an hp, lazer jet M2727mf. Our hp is only 1 month old and suddenly it will not copy. Several times it went through a start-up which was very slow,and the screen stated, 'it was initializing'. Once or twice after it went through that procedure it displayed the basic instructions on the screen. We tried coying and the copier went through the motions but the paper was white (no impressions) and it went back to trying to fix itself. Several times it came up with an error message of 8.

If it is only a month old, contact HP and get it replace/repaired. The scanner error 8 is a sure sign that there is a problem with a least the formatter and likely also the scanning mechanism. I state again, contact HP immediately.

You can try the following to remedy this problem as I had experienced it myself and was able to resolve it through the following means :

Remove the top lid, unscrew the 5 screws, 2 on the left, 1 on the top (under the lid), and 2 more hidden under the grey board which can be remove with caution.
Once opened, clean up the glass with some special clean-up liquid and dry. Clean-up the white square also under the lid.

Put the pieces back together carefully and try printing out.

Any unit manufactured before January 1, 2010 is covered by an HP service advisory which means they will fix the unit for free, regardless of date of purchase. Check the label on the back of the machine, that will give you the manufacturing date. Contact HP directly or any Service Partner. Be insistent, some of their agents and dealers are not aware of this free fix.
