Lens error is usually caused by mechanical faults concerning lens assembly. The lens cannot extend or retract fully, the error is detected and lens error is returned. Sometimes this can be fixed playing with the lens during extraction or retraction to help the lens asset getting back to normal. More often the camera lens must be disassembled and re-assembled by a technician to fix the problem.
Belikes, any external object is trapped in between your Lens Motor and Camera Body. You should consult Authorized Service Personnel to handle this trouble.
When I turn on the camera. the lens will not extend. The screen
will not show anything but a message, " date & time are already
programmed". No menu item works. Pictures cannot be taken.
The only thing not functioning was the lens I could turn on off see menus etc but could not take a picture and the lens would not retract - My husband cleaned the battery terminals on battery & in camera -IT WORKED !!!! good as new -
My camera did the same thing. Try doing a couple of things.
1) remove and digital media cards. 2) turn the camera on and delete any pictures that may be stored in the camera memory (not on a removeable card) 3) remove the batteries for 60 seconds 4) replace the batteries without the media card and lay the camera on a flat surface with the lens pointing up (not sure if this helps, but it worked for me) 5) The lens should retract. 6) Turn off the camera 7) replace the media card and turn on.
I think for some reason my camera was getting hung up on the pictures stored in the camera's memory.
When the battery dies, usually the camera will retract the lens if possible. If the battery is so dead the lens can not retract, I would recommend trying to charge or change the battery. Or try to turn the camera on, and then manually shutting it off if you can.
If your lens is open and the camera turns off after those dreaded beeps, I have a fix for your problem. Basically, for this model of camera, the lens first pushes out a bit and then it retracts into the camera. Well, my lens got stuck on the pushout and it prevented the camera from turning on. I used some finger pressure and wiggled the lens a bit. Then I turned it on and it retracted to where is was supposed to be to take pictures. Then I turned it off and it retracted into the camera. Problem solved!
Since your camera should be still under warranty, best thing will be to conntact to the appropriate factory service center for correction of the problem.
Good luck!
