What's the TV source? For most TVs, caption feature only works with signals on the antenna (RG-59/RG-6). That is over-the-air or cable without a set-top box.
For all other sources, you need to enable/disable the captions at the box (or a primary box, for some setups).
Some remotes will have a caption button. Otherwise, you'll have to search in the menus. On my IPTV set-top box, to access the closed captions control, I have to press Menu. After choosing the setup menu, I need to enter a code (from my service provider), then enter the Audio menu. Inside that sub-menu, I can access the Captions section. Years ago, I helped a neighbor with enabling closed captions on a secondary TV that was served by a satellite box in another room. The set-top box at the primary TV needed to be set that signal to Single Mode (show the same program on both TVs). This was done by pressing physical buttons on the box. Then enter menu system on that set-top box. Navigate to and select properties. The closed captions menu was inside this sub-menu. When the captions were enabled at the primary box in dual mode, the captions only displayed on the primary set.
Only captioning on the recorded movies only wright?U check the movie menu itself?Sometime the movies menus itself have the close captioning functions is on?Check the movies menus make sure all the close captioning functions are off too.
I don't know your TV, but closed captioning normally operates from the remote and/or the menu. There should be a CC button on the remote that will run through the three or four choices, including off. Also, when you go to your setup menu (on-screen) you should be able to find closed captioning on one of the sub-menus and turn it off there.
I hope this helps.
First figure out which device is causing the problem. It can be DVD,
VCR, TV etc. Whichever device it is: access menu of that device, scroll
down looking for CC, Caption, Closed Caption(or similar) if none of
these exist go to audio or video menus and look there for same. Press
select and change
On the remote - Press "Clear" button
May have to turn off CC in the TV menus. Try Menu on the remote and look for closed caption there.
If remote doesn't work, can try with buttons on TV itself to get into menu and turn it off.
If your remote is not allowing you to navigate through the menus, you may need to replace the batteries.
If this does not work, in the meantime you should be able to navigate the menus using the menu button on the TV. The Closed Captioning option should display under Channel Settings.
If you are still unable to get your remote to function properly, I recommend you contact Westinghouse Customer Service at (866) 287-5555. You may also view your product's manual at http://www.westinghousedigital.com/pdf/15_User_Manual.pdf
Assuming whatever your TV receiving from has close caption. (Not all TV channel has close caption)
Solution 1) Get a new universal remote that support your model and has close caption button. Once you program in the code for your TV model and it works then all button should also programmed including th close caption button.
Solution 2) Search online for the owner manual and read see how to turn it on using buttons on TV (if possible).
Solution 3) Get new TV with close caption. (If you have an old old TV with bad and huge pixels then this solution is the best. Your eyes will thank you.)
