How do i get the netgear_ext to show up on my wirless network

Try RESETTING the Netgear back to the default setting and then configure it again.
To RESET the Netgear, power up the Netgear then press andhold the RESET button at the back of the router until all the LEDs flash. Connect a LAN cable from the Netgear to the LAN port on yourcomputer, open a browser and enter the Netgear configuration URL -
http://192.168.0.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = password You can now change the admin password and configure thewireless settings.
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2encryption.
Apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

If this does not work then the Netgear routy is faulty, then you need a new wireless router.

Presumably, you have configured your wireless router:
* SSID (your "network name")
* encryption-level ('WPA' or higher security)
* password for your network

With that information, any wireless device (iPod Touch, iPhone, NetGear wireless adapter) should be able to connect to your wireless router.

You need to reconfigure the Wireless network again on your Netgear Router. Get in touch with your ISP.

5Ghz network is only for wireless G+ or wireless N compatable devices only.

Please try the below steps::

-- open the netgear setup page using www.routerlogin.com
-- check the wireless settings--
-- security should be WPA_PSK(TKIP)
-- passphrase can be anything that u want
-- apply the wirless settings..

And then
-- go to the I-pod touch Wireless settings of the I-pod
-- scan for available networks..
-- And when u find ur network name.
-- try to connect using WPA_PSK
(TKIP) passphrase ..
-- And the it will show u connected
-- and u will be able to go online wirelessly using I-pod
