Spy pen not working

If you have a Spy Pen, sometimes it just appears to be either stuck with the light on, or dead and won't turn on. We wrote this report to show you some of the tricks we found to getting your it to work again.
1. Perform A Hard Reset
The majority of the time, just inserting the end of a paper clip in the opening below the status light on the back, and performing a hard reset, will get your Spy Pen working. Just bend a small paper clip end out, and insert straight into the opening. When you meet resistance, push lightly, and you can feel the reset button depressed.
Make sure it goes straight in, and not at an angle, or you could damage some of the components inside. Let go and try to turn it on.
2. Rule Out The USB Cable
If you are using a USB cable to either connect the Spy Pen to your computer, or to the 110V wall charger adapter, one day the cable will fail. If you use the USB cable because you can't connect the pen directly to the computer, try just plugging it directly into the computer.
Don't use a USB hub, as sometimes there is not enough power for the it; just connect it directly to the computers USB port. On some computers, use the USB port on the back, as front USB ports are sometimes weaker.
3. Rule Out The 110V Wall Charger
Just like the USB cable, the 110V wall charger adapter will also fail at some point; so if it does not seem to take a charge, try charging it for 3 hours in the computers USB port. If the status light is on while its charging, its getting electricity to charge the battery.
4. Put The Spy Pen Back In Video Mode
Several Spy Pens have switches to go to photo mode, or voice activation mode. If you move the switch to change modes, and you do not move it back to video mode, the computer will say it is not recognized. Try moving the switch back to the original position.
5. Erase & Reformat The Spy Pen
If the Spy Pen shows up as a removable drive on your PC, just right click on the icon and let go on "Format." Then check the "Quick Format" button, then hit OK. The drive will be erased, and reformatted. This usually takes care of any pens that make it this far.

It won't start up. We put it to the charger and the green light blinks. Is it charging?

Welcome to FixYa.

If the charge lamp blinks slowly (green)
-battery is charging.
If the light is off
- battery is not charging.
- Also whe charging is complete, the charge lamp stops blinking and turns off.
If the charge lamp flikers (green)
- the ambient temperature is not suited to charging. Cganhe the battery indoors with an ambient temperature of 5C to 35C (41F to 95F)
- The USB cable or charging AC adapter is not properly connected, or there is a problem with the battery. Disconnect the USB cable or unplug the Charging C adapter and correctly connect it again, or chage the battery.

Please let me know if you have any questions and if this solution was helpful.

Thank you for using FixYa.

I have the charger, but lost the book with how to recharge. Please help Thank you.

There is an error in the instructions provided in the User's Manual and Quick Start Guide for the Coolpix S3000 and S4000. The information contained in the manual and guide instruct the user to plug the UC-E6 USB cable into the camera first before plugging into the AC power supply. This process will not switch the camera power on automatically.

Please follow the steps below in this order only * :
1 - Connect the USB cable UC-E6 to the Charging AC Adapter EH-68P.
vinayak_nair_3.jpg
2 - Plug the Charging AC Adapter into an electrical outlet.

vinayak_nair_4.jpg3 - Be sure that the camera is turned off and then connect the USB cable UC-E6 to the camera.
vinayak_nair_5.jpgWhen the green LED starts blinking slowly after a few seconds, charging has begun. When the LED goes off, charging is complete.
* If the charging light fails to come on at all, please sure to follow the steps in the correct order detailed above. Connecting with the incorrect order may result in a "no led light" situation.

Lack of Battery

First make sure it is your battery. Check to see if when you are charging your device and wiggle the USB cable a little if the green charge light starts blinking. If it starts blinking on and off you have a loose USB connector. This is an easy fix if you have some soldering skills. Your device should not turn off when it is hooked up to power even if you have a dead battery.

PEN DRIVE NOT FORMETTED

This situation often comes when you're incorrectly disconnecting the drive (or even worse if you are disconnecting it when the data is copying).
The right way:
point your mouse cursor at the icon with green arrow (at the systray near the clock on the bottom right side of your screen). Press LEFT mouse button and press on the pop-out text: Safely remove USB mass storage device Drive(X:). If you see text on yellow balloon "The 'USB mass storage device' can now be safely removed from the system" you can safely remove it now.
Try to use your pen drive with another computer. Too many humidity or static charge can also damage you pen drive.
Sometimes there's nothing you can do with your pen drive with the situation you've described.
