I just got xfinity cable internet that is connected through a linksys wireless g router and a arris cable modem. when i do a speed test at 2wire.com, my speed is only 2.7 Mbps. I believe it should be 16. I would like to know if it is because the router is a g instead of an n.

To correctly check James, I would connect a computer directly to the modem, and test at speedtest.net. If that DL speed is fine, then I would connect the router, and plug a computer directly into the router and test again. If that number is fine, then you can narrow your issue down to WiFi speed only. All of the ports on the back of that router should be at least 100 Mbps ports. So that should not be the bottleneck. If your speed directly attached to the modem is slower than you expected, I would contact your carrier.

Is there a firmware that will work with my arris tg 1682g router/modem?

best is leave it alone and not brick it.
but gee arris.com ask them we are no them.
YOUR UNSTATED ISP WILL NOT ALLOW THIS ASK THEM FIRST,
DO FLASH THERE MODEM, EVER,
If fact they keep it upgraded for you, talk to your ISP and listen to them. (are you dreaming of getting unpaid channel band width, no answer from me)

Linksys speed cut off

First, are you connected via Ethernet cable or are you linking via Wi-Fi? If Wi-Fi the speed is alway slower (up to 54 Mps) If connected by Ethernet, your connection speed should read 100 Mbps. Once you have determined the connection mode and speed.unplug the wireless router and connect the computer directly to the modem. Now test the speed and see if the speed lag is still ther. If not, you have a routing /networking issue but, it it is still the same speed, it could very well be heavy traffic ( a lot of people drawing from the same local area signal., usually at specific times of the day).

We have just signed up for cable TV/high speed internet/cable telephone. The modem provided is an "Arris" version 1.5. The cable tech said I could connect my Belkin G router so that more than one computer...

Plug the ethernet net cord into the arris ethernet port. plug the other end into the router where it says "internet"

Plug a ethernet cable from one of the router ports to the computer.

First start up the arris modem, then power up the router, then start the computer.

Trying to connect my ps3 to the internet but need wireless route

That won't work because your old sbc wireless router 2wire gateway is also a modem. You need a plain router for Time Warner. Try Linksys router.

My IMAC ethernet connection to my wrt54G is much slower than wifi

Then you have your settings wrong, as I have the same setup for many years. The setup page of your router should be set basically default, it should be all set to auto ip and other than your dns there should not be anything else to set. I have 3 wireless and two wired devices and all of the computers .And the speed is constant,,something is wrong with your settings, if you can take a screenshot by opening the router homepage and hitting the print screen button on your keyboard, you can then hit paste on here and it will past the entire thing on here to examine

Shutdown any and all computers connected to the router

Turn everything on in this order:

How do i connect a Linksys wrt54g2 to a arris cm450a

Your modem is capable of linking up to a router. What you do is take an ethernet cable and run it form the internet port on your modem to the internet/wan port on your router. From there you connect your pc's into the LAN ports on the router (typically labeled 1-5) if they are hardwired or you connect wirelessly with your laptop. You need to also power cycle/reset your modem when you plug your router in.
