My would fill up with water then not spin. Then it would do nothing. I called a repair man out it was the safety switch. You remove the top where the dial is and to the left side of the machine you will see a black connector, it plugs into the switch, the swtich will have a green ground wire. I replaced the switch it works great. The switch is $8 on amazon.

Hi,
Sounds like you have multiple problems...you are right... probably not worth fixing...
Look at the front loaders... they use way less water and are more gentile on your clothing...

On the back of your machine you can remove the back panel think it is about 8 screws. Once you get the back panel off look closely at the motor. Motor mounts, gears, clutch, brake, and if need be take the bottom apart and look at the main bearing on the bottom of the drum to make sure that hasnt gone bad

Does the washing machine empty as normal? I am assuming it does and think the brushes on the motor could be worn. Hope this helps.

When the transmission or clutch goes bad, it costs less to buy a new washing machine than to get the old one fixed. It's just possible that you could take it apart, lubricate it, and get it to spin properly. But if the machine is several years old, I'd recommend a shopping trip rather than springing for a service call.
