Does the laptop boot? Sound? Do you see a "ghost Image" in the monitor in a bright light? If so, Could be backlighting, Inverter, on/off switch that shuts the monitor on/off when you open and close the lid. Can you boot to safe mode with networking? If so, Open the Device Manager, Uninstall the Graphics Adapter, reboot, the software will apply a generic driver, If the Graphics adapter has not failed completely.
Try to remove battery and power adapter.

Login to windows
check the battey backup
Connect the Adapter back and check the the battery life
This problem is either due to your power adapter, wall plug or the back of your lap top where the power adapter goes into. My guess would be the power adapter, they are infamous for going bad. Try wiggling the cord that connects to the power brick (black box) from your lap top.
sounds like the d/c adapter was either installed backward or the wrong part was installed, also check the connector on the new power cord to the laptop, you may have gotton an incorrect power cord. because what you describe is the internal power system is shorting out. take battery out and check it with a volt meter , if the is no volts/or negative volts on the battery ,it has gotten internaly reversed , and needs replacement.
It sounds like you dc jack is not functioning if you are could with solder and disassemble you can do that yourself . Otherwise you can get it repaired for around 75-100 dollars
