Take a close look at your door springs. Could be a broken one. If not, remove the cover and look at the drive gear. It is a white nylon gear just in front of the motor. May be going bad. It will be obvious if it is. Release the door from the opener and try opening it by hand. If it is heavy you have a spring problem.
Check the door springs and also remove the cover from the motor unit and check the drive gear. The door spring could be broken or the drive gear may be stripped.
If your opener is truly 25 years old there are not going to be any parts available. The model number you give is not the model number. It starts with 139. and probably has 6 numbers after the period or dash. Once you have it you can go to Sears parts and see if there are parts available.
Door sensors are not working. Check if lights are on both sides.
Might be misaligned or one is bad.
Door will close if you hold in the garge close button until it's all the way down.
And it will open on it's own.
You can get these off ebay.
Make a slight adjustment to the Upward force on the side of the machine. Turn the screw a 1/4 turn each time and test, see if that helps. Also, make sure there are no obstructions or friction when the door opens and closes. Try it manually first.
NOT SURE WHAT UNIT YOU HAVE .
ALL OPENERS HAVE AN ADJUSTMENT TO TELL IT HOW FAR TO GO UP AND HOW FAR TO GO DOWN. LOOK ON THE SIDE OR UNDER A LIGHT COVER.IT HAS TO BE THERE SOMEWHERE
