If the disk in the drive shows it is a unknown disk , you must check the disk is good or bad , to check the disk , please follow the instruction,
put the dvd -rom in the drive , at the moment it shows unknown disk , select right click for properties of the disk , it shows the disk usage with a diagram , if the disk usage is on pink colour your disk is free and ready to use . otherwise the disk colour is blue in colour , it is due to manufacturing defect . it can be only cleared by replacing the disk with new one .

Portable dvd player when you put disc in machine it comes up with wrong disc display on screen is it the settings

It would more likely be the types of discs used. They are either of a region code not compatible with the player, contain foreign/unknown data, or they are unsupported formats. For example, if the player supports DVD-R playback, and you put a DVD-RW in, the player will generate 'wrong disc' message if the player cannot recognise the disc or the contents on it.

The disc formats/types that can be played should be outlined either on the unit itself or in the instruction manual (if you still have it). If the player shows that message even with genuine shop-bought DVDs then there is a defect within the unit, workshop attention may be required to fix it, but it could be costly.

'WRONG DISC' usually means the disc inserted is of a different region code to the player, or the wrong format (DVD-RW instead of DVD-R as exampled above). Try using different discs before going any further.

Shows unkown disc when i put in a burned dvd-r but it will play a store boughten disc what disc format is compadible with yhis unit

This model DVD player can play the following disc formats:

DVD-Video (Region 1 or relevant region coded store-bought movies)

DVD-R (must be finalised on appropriate recording equipment for compatible playback)

CD-R (for jpeg/mp3 media files)

CD-RW (for audio such as mp3)

music CD (such as store-bought albums)

This player will NOT accept DVD-RW/+RW discs, or Blu-Ray.

I hope this helps you a tiny bit.

Trying to record on dvd, using dvd-r dut says unknown disc what to do?

Hi

This is a comon one, RW Disks do all look similkar but, they do have diferent letters at the end of the name and if you have not bought the correct coded disk, your RW wil not recognize is. Sugest you read your manual and check what exact disks you need and check the pack you have bought.

After disc is loaded, it says "unknown disc."

Is it a pirated dvd? If it is, do you know some dvd players won't read pirated dvds? And if it isn't, then your dvd player may be dirty (the lens). For that you would have to buy a cleaning disk. You can get one at Radioshack. Or maybe what type of dvd type is it? Is it dvd-r, dvd-rw, or what? Some dvd players have trouble reading dvd-rw sometimes.

Hope this helps.

I cannot format either dvd-r or rws with this machine.

try a single disk, but make sure format is not (-r or -rw; but +r or+rw )negative is mostly for computers, and positive is mostly for dvds and such; should find single at walgreens or wal-mart.

I have a Zenith XBR413 dvd/vcr recorder. Just bought some Memorex DVD+RW blank discs to do some recording. When I put the disc in the recorder it says "Unknown disc - check disc again" and pops the disc...

You may need dvd- disks instead! ( it usually one or the other!) and if your player does take a DVD+ you might have to change brands of disks ( I know this sounds stupid but all disks are not created equal! and do not work in all players!
