According to the manual you can choose your profile by using the clutch function. Are the profiles that you downloaded of the same file type as the one you have been able to make from scratch?
You should also check that the driver you downloaded is official and the latest one available. Go here to get to the Saitek website download center. Then in the Choose your product type" box select Joysticks. Then from the Select Product box choose X52. Then you will be prompted to select your Operating system. After you choose your operating system you will then be able to download the latest official drivers as well as the software.
You can get official profiles here. If these are the profiles you already have then follow these steps to view the suggested profile assignments, make modifications, and add new assignments.Unzip and deposit the profiles into your Saitek profile folder. On XP, this is located in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents. On Vista, it's in C:\Users\Public\Documents, and Windows 7 the folder is located in your Documents Library.
Open your profile editor, and then use the 'open' function to view a profile.
To assign a function to a button, right click a button cell in the editor. The menu will show all the commands saved to the profile document. Left click the command name and it will be assigned to that button.
Repeat this process for any other commands you want to add.
Once you are happy with your setup, click the Save As button and give your new profile a name. You can save over the existing one if you want, but it may be best to keep this one unchanged as a template for new profiles.
You can then activate the profile by clicking the profile button (blue target reticule) in the editor window. Alternatively, once saved, the profile will appear in your Saitek icon menu located in the system tray. Left click on the profile name to activate, and click clear profile to deactivate the profile.
I see, this may be just a programming fault by the part of the Saitek team. I suggest conatcting them and finding out if this has happened to anyone else and what can be done to fix it. You can view their contact information here.

Yes they are the same and I've downloaded from the saitek site the profiles 3 different times without results. When I go into the profile editor and open ANY of the (pr0) profiles I get the same error that the file can't load. When I make a profile from scratch and then save it with the same extention it works fine. I don't want to have to create all of my profiles from scratch. I also have a cyborg EVO and use the same programs and editors which work fine only with those files I've created from scratch and I can't load any official profiles from Saitek's web site.
I can assign the profile but when I try to open and edit the same official profile I get the error "can't load file'
yes I have installed the latest programs and drivers from Saitek site
I don't know what else I can add. Below is what I asked and tried to clarify for the previous tech:
I've downloaded the sst software
Problem with the Saitek X52 Flight Control System
I've downloaded the sst software and drivers for my X52 Flight Controller (NOT PRO) when I downloaded the profiles for the X52 Flight controller ALL of the profiles (pr0 format) say 'can't load file. I've been able to make a profile from scratch, but haven't been able to use any pre-defined profiles on the web so far.
