The picture is oversized and the printing as in the stock ticker or in the sports scores can only be seen a little bit on the bottom. Can't find anyway to resize the picture.

The remote is working fine, and it is set for TV mode. When I push the menu button and hold it down, all that happens is the actual menu comes up and stays there. The only time that the channel number and time appears is when u switch channels, and it appears for about 5 seconds and then disappear. Whenever is punch in the numbers 9876 all it does is put into the channel number! Confused I am.

  • Anonymous Mar 22, 2011

I am still not gaining, u did not say if after the on-screen menu disappears, if you keep your finger on the menu button while pressing the 9876 and enter or release your finger and press 9876 and enter. I tried it both ways, if I relase the menu button, it simply tries to turn the channel to 76, if I hold it down the various normal menu items just keep rotating, but no service menu. Aaaaaahhhh!!

Zenith sets, like most others now, are adjusted electronically through a service menu. You'll need your original remote control (or a Zenith-brand universal replacement with a MENU key) to access the menu. Press and hold the MENU button until the channel number and time display goes away, then press 9, 8 , 7, 6, ENTER. This puts you into service mode.

In service mode, CHANNEL UP and CHANNEL DOWN move through the different settings, and VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN change the values. Make sure you write down the original value of anything before you change it so you can put it back if necessary. One of the reasons the manufacturers hide the service menu is because the set can be damaged by incorrect settings to some of the parameters.

On some models, you can't get to all the parameters unless you change one called F MODE from 00 to 01. You might need to do this on yours.

The list of parameters varies by model and features. I haven't worked on a Zenith in a long time so I don't remember exactly what yours says, but you want to find two settings for V SIZE (vertical size) and V POS (vertical position). Adjust the size first by lowering the value until the top and bottom of the screen are black. Then adjust the position so the picture is centered (black strips close to equal size). Finally, increase the size until the picture fills the screen again. It's normal to adjust for a little overscan, meaning you push the top and bottom a little bit out of view. If you stop too soon, on some channels you might see flashing lines at the top of the picture.

When you're finished adjusting, turn the TV off to exit service mode. If you needed to change the F MODE setting, put it back to 00 first. Your picture should be properly sized after all this.

I pushed the menu button on the original remote control and held it down. The channel number and time display doesn't even show up, so it is impossible to wait for it to disappear. I tried pushing the 9876 enter into the remote but it does nothing.

You posted this under a Zenith TV heading so I assumed that's what you have. Is your TV actually a Zenith? The steps I gave are in fact the way to access Zenith's service menu. Do you know that your remote control is working correctly? Is it set for TV mode? The original remote was multi-function.

Like I said it's been a while. As long as the menu comes up, the remote is working. OK, I guess both my feet are firmly in my mouth. Hold that button down until the on-screen menu disappears, then enter 9, 8, 7, 6. Yeah, the menu comes up when you push the button. The channel and time are displayed when you press the DISPLAY button. Let me know if that works for you. Thanks for sticking with me as I make a fool of myself.

The image display on my Westinghouse 42" LED TV does not fit the screen. It is zoomed in, so when watching sports, i cannot see the score and time ticker.

Using the remote go to the menu for the TV. Look for picture or aspect ratio. Make sure it is set to 16:9 and not zoom or auto. That should clear the problem up.

Ticker along bottom of screen for news channels and sports channels is being cutoff along the bottom. That is, the ticker moves right to left and I can read it but the bottom 10-15% of the letters is...

Hi,

I might need a little more detail to solve this problem - I suspect the problem is an incorrect setting on your cable/satellite receiver (assuming you are using one), but let's start with the TV.

Firstly, switch the TV on and select a channel where you can see the ticker. Then press the "FORMAT" button (above the red REC/CONNECT button) on your Mitsubishi remote control. This will change the screen aspect ratio and the current setting will be displayed on screen. Each time you press the FORMAT button the screen size should change.

The screen aspect ratio settings for your TV are STANDARD, EXPAND, ZOOM, STRETCHED and NARROW. Press the FORMAT button repeatedly until "STANDARD" is displayed on the screen. If the ticker is still cut off, you need to change the aspect ratio setting on your cable/satellite receiver.

Please note: If the TV will only allow you to select STANDARD, this is not a fault. It simply means that the aspect ratio cannot be changed on the TV because it's displaying a picture from an external source, i.e. a cable/satellite receiver.

You should then look for a button on the front of your cable/satellite receiver or the cable/satellite remote control marked "FORMAT" or "ZOOM". When you have located this button, try pressing it repeatedly until the ticker is both fully on the TV screen and the picture covers the entire screen.

If you don't have a FORMAT or ZOOM button for your cable/satellite receiver or you are unable to set the picture size correctly, leave the TV set to STANDARD and then reply to me with the brand and model number of your cable/satellite receiver. I will then be able to assist you with finding the correct picture settings and give instructions on how to set these correctly.

I hope this helps - please post back here if you need further assistance.

Regards,
BElectric

My Zenith C32V28 television does not display the top and bottom of the picture. I phoned Zenith tech support who told me that it was the satellite signal. I called the satellite provider who advised me it...

This is applicable to Bell Television Services (Canada)
I solved the problem myself after two calls to both Zenith and Bell Television satellite service. On the bottom left of the Bell remote control there is a * (STAR BUTTON). Press this * button and within two seconds you must press the channel change button up or down. This will do two things. One; it changes the channel; and also changes the ratio of the satellite signal. There are three satellite signal ratio settings. Try this when you are tuned to a TV channel such as BNN (Canada) (Business News) or The American channel which has a stock ticker usually displayed along the bottom of the TV screen. Select the ratio (setting) that allows the stock ticker to be displayed......hope this helps.........Jim McP

Broken SkiFi vs New SkiFi 2? Direct Replacement? Please advise-Thanks

The original SkyFi's display was quite difficult to see in the sunlight. The glare was too much. The new unit's display is a different material, and sunken in to alleviate the problem of glare.
The SkyFi2 also has TuneSelect. It was the first receiver to allow the user to enter the artist information for memory. Other units with TuneSelect only allowed song titles.
It also added a 3rd bank of presets, allowing for 30 presets instead of the original's 20 presets. SkyFi2 added the option of a stock ticker, or sports score ticker in the display. The original SkyFi's option of 3 different displays included the channel number only, to be displayed. Also, there is a built in FM modulator so you can set the tune on the reciever... and yes you will be able to use all of your accessories.
