We bought the StreetPilot c340 less than a year ago. Until a couple weeks ago, the device worked fine. But since then, when I turn it on, it boots, sometimes goes as far as having me input the street number where I'm going, then completely dies. This happens with the device plugged in or when operating on battery. I swapped out fuses in the power cable to make sure that the fuse wasn't the problem. It wasn't. What do you suggest?

Most likely they will request a proof of purchase to confirm you are within their limited warranty policy. You could try saying it was a gift? Might work around holiday season.
My Garmin Nuvi 650 would boot up and load maps, but I could not enter my access code. Screen would not respond. Turned off & on a number of times, but still same problem. This occurred on first use after upgrading the maps. Thinking it may have overheated on the dashboard of my truck, I held the device in front of the air conditioner vent for about five minutes to cool it down. When I then turned it on, it worked fine. For the rest of my 3-week vacation, I kept it cool & out of the sun when it was not turned on. No problems after that.
Yes its most likely the battery, if you plug it into the charger, I assume it powers up normally? Il see if I can get you instructions on battery replacement. I remember there was one for your model or a similiar one. Hold on.
I had the same problem with my tomtom 510. I had to look real close but I finally found the tiny reset hole and pressed it with a paper clip and Wah-Lah!
The clue is that the voice is slowing and low pitch. The main processor time base has slowed... which means everything will be buggy.
First try would be to Reset the unit. Remove the face cover (GENTLY pry it loose by the fingernail groove directly under the GARMIN logo), press the RESET button, then reattach front cover... this is covered in the owners manual, available online.
If not, then it sounds like a hardware failure... time for a 1-800-800-1020 call (their customer service number)
quite thx
