I'm not sure what you're trying to do but it sounds like something is wrong for sure. You can probably adjust your resolution if that is the problem through "contrl panel" in personalization. You do not say if you have tried to change the resolution yourself or what your OS is.
You can usually get to the resolution options by right clicking on a space on the desktop.
I have Windows 10 and right click > Display Settings and Resolution is right there.
You may have to Google for Earlier OS
Verify that you have the correct and most recent video drivers installed on your system. The video card is what delivers the appropriate resolution to a monitor. This will depend upon if you have the default installed Linux OS designed for the Netbook or if you installed Windows XP on it.
It's a driver problem, Check here, click on refine search by: Operative system, check Windows XP, then on the other option click on Display, you'll see 3 options for download, download and install all 3 of them, maybe you'll need to reboot, then you can change you resolution to fit your needs.
I think you mean 800X600 to 1024X768 or higher.. The reason why you cannot increase the resolution and the bit color to higher than 8 or 16 bit color is because the incorrect video driver was installed. Download and install the correct video driver for your model laptop.
You can download the device drivers from ASUS WEB site.Select your model motherboard/computer/laptop, and make sure you select driversthat matches your Windows operating system. Please click on this link to theirWEB support site : -

It is possible that the video driver cannot support 1440X900 resolution. Try installing the latest video driver and then try the higher screen resolution.
Two thing can cause this problem.
1. The screen resolution is set too low. Try changing the screen resolution to 1024X768
2. If you cannot alter the screen resolution then the video driver was not installed or the wrong viseo driver was installed.
You can download any/all the Windows XP or Vista device drivers for your model laptop from the Toshiba WEB site from their download page. Make sure you enter the model of your laptop so you can get the correct drivers. Use this link: - http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp
