yes in some issues i have encountered the ribbon that plugs the keyboard in may be corrupted or you may have a bad keyboard

Does this computer KB work alright in SAFE mode? If it does then drivers and/or viruses are the problem. If it doesn't work in SAFE mode then it could be drivers and or keyboard. Now try booting into BIOS. At the date prompt you usually can type any keyboard letter. If the keyboard works here, then you definately have driver/virus issues. If not replace the keyboard.
SOURCE: activation of the number pad so instead of
Hi, try pressing the numlock key - this should put the number pad as standatd until it is pressed again, when it will revert to letters.
look in bios, for numlock boot
thats why the number function works instead of the letter,

SOURCE: i cant undo the fn key on the mini note
You should be able to turn off the built in numeric keypad by pressing the fn key and the num lk simultaneously. The num lk is directly above the +/= key. If after doing this you still find you only momentarily turn off the numeric keyboard then there is another underlying issue. At that point you should take your unit to your area HP repair center.
