First be sure the switch/circuit breaker on top of the nozzle is on. The brush also will not turn unless the handle is released and tilted back. This model of Hoover has a gear drive to turn the brushes. This was VERY prone to problems, and Hoover discontinued making replacement parts for it several years ago.

Why beter bar dosent spin while in the vaccum mode only in up right position ?

Hello! The air pressure from the motor is most likely spinning the brushes in the upright position. This vacuum has a brush-roll on/off pedal located on the left side of the cleaner. To activate the brushes, power the vacuum on, recline the handle and then press the brush-roll on/off pedal. The brushes should begin to spin. If they do not the belt may need to be replaced. Hope this helps!

My Windtunn begless hoover vaccum cleaner which i bought in dec gets very hot and smells like burning and belt gets hot and then it splits in two pieces,i changed 3 belts already .i bought it from...

check to make sure that the brush wheel turns freely ( without belt on ) -- if it does not turn freely then there could be hair or carpet strands twisted up on the ends of the wheel,, inspect and clean. also make sure that the wheel cartridge is sitting nicely in its mounting area,, ( again - make sure the wheel turns freely ). now if it is moving freely - then make sure the height adjustment on the vacume is set to the proper height for your carpet thickness,, it kinda sounds like the brush wheel is not turning because it has to much pressure on the floor.
so -- make sure wheel spins freely, replace the belt and adjust the height and then check the unit for proper operation.

Hoover Empower Widepath, brush won't spin.

The belt needs to be changed, it's probably spinning in place which is causing the smell (burnt rubber).

How to replace vaccum belt on a hoover tempo

Turn the machine upside down. Take the screws out of the bottom plate and remove it. take out the brush roller and old belt. Wrap the new belt around the metal shaft of the motor first and put the roller inside the belt loop and use the roller as leverage to stretch the belt up to the brush housing and slide the roller in place. Give the roller a spin by hand the make sure everything moves freely before you use it. It should spin with out much effort, if it doesn't you probably have the belt pinched, and you need to free it up before putting the bottom plate back one. It will take a little elbow grease, but it will go on.

Hoovers usually list what kind of belt they take on the serial tag.

Brushes not rotating on my Hoover Steam Vac Dual

The brushes are all connected to a single shaft. This square shaft is connected to 2 sets of gears and then another shaft which is turned by an impeller (suction from the vaccum pump is used to turn the impell and thus the brushes). There are 2 bearings that the impeller shaft turns on. It's likely these are rusted up and just need a bit of WD 40. Took me 30 min to take apart, lube, and put back together. Remember, its plastic. If things won't come apart, look for another screw. Mine was a brand new unit and the top bearing was rusted.

Thermal Protector activated and won't turn off on Hoover Em upright bagless

been there... done that. Vaccuming fine powder can interfere with contact of the brushes against the armature of the motor. You can turn it on and off all you want, but if the brushes have a coating of fine powder on them the motor won't run. If there's any way to "blow it out" with something like compressed air, then spin the motor by hand (with the unit UNPLUGGED) a few times, try that. If the motor starts after plugging in and turning it on, it was most likely dirty brushes.

Help

as the hose fits into the base (if i am correct) the power at the base should be fine, make sure the base is clean and free from blockage, you say the brush doesn't spin, has the belt broken, if so replace it, (very cheap) and only a couple of screws to undo, the roller not rotating will effect the power of suction dramatically, start from there and see how you go if i have helped please rate me
