Toshiba satellite 2805-S301 cd rom, does not function...

I wasn't aware this model had wi-fi. Have you a wireless card inserted into the side?

Hello If your using Microsoft Windows open, Controll Panel , System , Device Manager. Look down the list to Network Adapters and click the plus symbol. If you have a wireless card installed it will show the name and type. Right click the wireless adapter and click properties. This box will tell you the status of your wireless adapter. If no wireless adapter is shown you will have to install a card. If the card is present and enabled you may have to turn the wireless function on by using a combination of keyboard keys or look for a switch on the computer. Hope this helps.

assuming that the external hard disk is usb

i would try this

plug in the external hard drive
then go to device manager
then hover your mouse at the top of the box
and look for a icon that says scan for new hardware
then hit the scan icon
your laptop may or maynot recognize the external hard drive at this stage
now leaving it plugged in restart the laptop
and with any luck windows will now recognize it

Not wireless ready - as none of the 2805's were ever pre-wired with wireless card antennas. You can install a PCMCIA wireless card, or use a USB wireless adapter. Either one will work - the PCMCIA cards will be faster.
