If you haven't already done so, go to the Setup menu (the wrench). Under CSM/Setup Menu, select Full.

Now go to the Custom Settings menu (the pencil). Find Auto off Timers. Long will display image review for twenty seconds. Custom will let you set it for as long as ten minutes.

This is all under "Menu Guide" in the D40 manual.

D40 menu screen problem

i'll give you 2 solutions for this one

If you are talking about the MENU that shows up on the picture regarding the ISO, FLASH, APERTURE, WHITE BALANCE and Whatnot, you need to press the up arrow or down arrow buttons on the directional keys to remove the menu on the button

but if you are talking about the MENU which you can tweak different settings you just have to do a half-press on the shutter release button which will turn off the screen.

I, too, am raising my hand on this?D40 with same autofocus problem, with all AF-S lens, 18-35 kit, 18-135, 18-200 VR, 50-200 VR. No solution after trying all above.

Please give more detail on this problem .
Have you tried another AFS or G lens.
Also the af switch could be turned off or the
back focus button could be set inthe custom menu .

Try unplugging your set, If you didnt save the changes this should reset it back to default settings. If that desnt work, you will need to go bak into the service manual and adjust the horizontal size. Just write down anything you change so you can revert back if you have too.
