Dear Folks, My colour laser is probably my most "valuable" and needed tool, next to my notebook. The black toner cartridge ran out and I replaced it. From that point on, the printing is very faded, gray. Certainly not the way I can send out my newsletter. I have tried two other cartridges and it makes no difference. I do not get black, I get light gray. The drum imaging kit was replaced a couple of months ago and it's working fine. My only problem is that since I changed black toner today, I don't get "black" printing. Ideas??? Please?? Thank you.

Well there are few tests you could run to make sure it's not the printer.

1. You said you already tried different print cartridges and it didn't make a difference.

2. Have you tried printing anything else? Like the windows test page? Does that come out gray as well? The reason I suggest this is because sometimes when printing a document you can set the printer settings to always print in "Draft" mode. This mode allows the printer to conserve the ink which make black look faded or gray. If you can make sure the printer settings are set to "Normal" or "High Quality" then test.

3. Also are you buying the printer cartridges from the same vendor? What I mean is that sometimes different vendors have different quality of printer cartridges. Some sell re-use/re-furbished print cartridges for a much lower price, and some sell OEM (original equipment manufacturer) for "an arm and a leg". So make sure you have a good quality print cartridges.

Hope this helps

P.S In the future you should let us know what make and model your printer is, this will help us narrow down the issue, or if we have had this issue happen to us we can let you know.

Brother hl3040cn. I have replaced black cartridge it now says other 3 need replacing. Was printing ok before black ran out; not printed colour for long time. thanks

This printer tells you to replace the toner when there is still plenty left. You can override this as follows:-
1. Open the top cover
2. Press "Secure print" and "Cancel" together
3. This brings up the cartridge menu. Press "OK" twice for each entry, then scroll down to the next one. There are two entries for each colour, dunno why.
4. When you've done all 8 entries shut the lid and print.
This may need to be redone every few months.

Xerox Phaser 6360 Black Toner prints Light Grey

I have had to repair a few of these. Take off the sides and back of the 6360. You'll see the hoses that feed into the laser. The black one becomes unplugged from the laser. All you have to do is plug it back in. The next step can be kinda messy. Take out the black toner cartridge, and spin the motor backwards. You'll know you're going the right way because it won't turn the other way. Cycle the gear where the toner sits for about 2 revolutions. Reassemble and you should be good to go!

This thing took me 6 days to figure out the first time. Haha!

Please vote on my solution! Thanks!

Bought a canon super g3 laser printer approx 8 months ago which prints in black and white. can i put a colour cartridge into this printer?? thank you

Super G3 is not the model. It is Canon's fax technology. It is classified as a laser fax/printer. This is a monochrome printer which means you can print only one colour at a time. You can print all black or all yellow, all red or whatever colour cartridge is available. It has no capability to mix colours. Not any colour (including black) toner will work as the composition is different to suit the printer model. Hope this helps.

I have just replaced the black toner as requested by my HL 4050CDN laser printer with a genuine brother replacement and now it's flashing on the LCD that I need to replace the 3 colours also. It's not...

just open the cartridge holders for the colours and even pull them out a little. Machine will think you replaced them.
Normally when you replace black it will ask if you did replace the colors. If you say no it will calculate the amount of toner in there still.
**** that is for next time. Now just open the cartridge holders for the collors and let the machine think you replaced them.

Blue Toner finishes quicker

I can't imagine where toner could possible go from one of these sort of cartridges except on to your paper, I had a customer once with the same request and I found on their letter head that they printed with it had a single band of yellow across it hence excess yellow use,,,,,, Do your print runs of anything contain dark bands/underlines? I guess check to see if white background in any prints has a blueish tinge to it, or possiblly somehow black is running out and it is printing the blacks by mixing the colours (Check black block and text to see if it is really black not heaps dark blue to ensure black toner is operating)

next I'd be questioning if cartridges where brother ones?

How do i change a black cartridge ona Magicolor 2300DL? The black toner is shown as empty but the menu only allows me the options of changing one of the color cartridges. Black is not mentioned

Black is listed as K. CMY (Cyan Magenta Yellow) K (Black)

Easiest way ids to open the fron door, remove the toner bottle and poke a screwdriver in the small round hole near the toner opening. This will free the carousel so you can move it to whatever colour you want to remove.
