When I was changing the staple cartridge in my Max EH-50F electronic stapler a round bar about 1.5 inches long and two springs about .50 inches long came out. I can see where the bar goes - but it won't stay there - thinking the springs hold it in place - but can't see where they would attach. Can't locate a owners manual either here or on-line. Unit will not work with out this bar securely in place. Help...

How do I reload staplers?

There are two basic designs of staplers. The most common type is the Swingline or Stanley Bowstitch types. At the business end of the stapler there is a small catch that you need to pull rearward and the front staple head will drop down. Inside, you will see a metal bar and a spring. Pull the spring back towards the rear of the stapler and insert a full clip of staples appropriate for your stapler. Release the spring slowly so the metal tab pushes against the staples... should be pointed tips down. Put the stapler on a firm surface and press it as you would when stapling something. The two parts of the stapler head will join back together again.

WHERE do I open it to refill it??

Located on the end opposite of where the staples come out, there is a spring loaded cap. Push it in toward the base of the stapler and slightly down to release the retaining hook. then let the spring release the pressure rod and pull it out. Connedted to the end of the rod you will see a plunger that is shaped like a short run of staples. Make a mental note of how and where this plunger slides into the base of the stapler. Place a run of staples into the stapler in the same manner that the plunger fits then replace the plunger into the same place following the run of staples. Compress the spring into the stapler and attach the hook as it was. Now you are ready to work.

NOTE: If you cannot compress the spring enough into the stapler you have inserted too many staples, just remove some of the run of staples and try again.

Cant get staples into it!!!

Sue, First, confirm that you have the right size staples. They are sized in two dimensions - width and length. The most common width sizes are T50 and T35. Your stapler and your pack of staples should have a number such as this. Your stapler will accept staples only of the correct width but of various lengths. The lengths are given in fractional inches - 3/8 inch and 1/2 inch are common.
But perhaps your problem is how to open the stapler. It does not swing open like a stapler you would use for papers. Instead, it has a sort of spring piston that has to be removed from the back-end of the stapler. If you lay the stapler down flat on the table so that the hinge of the handle is at the upper left corner, then what I am calling the back-end of the stapler is the lower right corner. Pick up the stapler so that you are looked directly at this back-end. There is a small metal square at this corner that is spring-loaded and is held in place by a little hook. Push in on this metal square as you move it up (or is it down?) to disengage the hook. Now the piston will pull out easily. Put your staples in the hole (they will only go in one way) and replace the piston. I hope you found this helpful Good luck!

It's the max eh-c591xa need info on how to load. someone said to unscrew bottom to fix jam. hope this help will load also. wish me luck! AG

You can leave the stapler on the desk. If you pull the lever across the back, the top half will flip over and you can see the instructions and the clear plastice staple cartridge. You just pull it staight out. No screwdriver needed.

Compatible staples

If you look at the bottom of the stapler, you can probably find the brand and model (maybe even a reference to the staples that it uses). Once you have those, a place like office max should be able to provide the appropriate staples. They are probably standard, but one never knows.
Hope this helps.

Problem loading gun..Where do we put in the staples and change the dial to accomodate it? fred

The staples should load in through the end of the hammer stapler. The end is spring loaded to push the staples forward, so push the end - usually a crome square - into the handle end then move that part up approximately 1/4 inch and pull back. The spring mechanism should slide out so you can add new staples. These staplers take a specific size of staple and a certain number to allow you to put the spring mechanism back into the stapler. If you do not know the correct size for your stapler someone at your local hardware store can help you find the correct size and they will probably even show you how to load it. Good luck!

My Swingline model 520e jams every other time I staple.

There were a few staples left in the cartridge when the stapler stopped working. I went thru all the steps on bottom for stapler after changing the cartridge with two different cartridges. It makes the noise and puts marks in the paper, but no staples come out of it.
