My PS3 recognizes the HDMI input, but when I attempt to change the settings, it won't work
I recently bought an HDMI to use with my PS3, and when I hook it up to both the TV and PS3, it doesn't work! The PS3 will recognize the HDMI cable, but when i change the settings, a blank screen shows up on the TV. I have to reset the PS3 by holding the power button for 5 seconds, and then it returns to the AV settings. I have an Xbox 360 and HD cable, and the TV supports them both. Is there any way I can get my PS3 to work with the HDMI cable? Help me please! Thanks!
Thanks for the response. Under settings when I go to display settings and video output settings, I select the HDMI cable instead of the component, and the screen goes blank for 30 seconds, and then soon returns to the previous settings, and not the HDMI. I still do not understand the problem. do you have any other idea of what I can do? Thanks again.

First, make sure your TV is on the appropriate input for the plugged in HDMI cable. Once this is completed, turn your ps3 on. If the screen comes on and is black, turn the ps3 to standby (red light is on) and hold the front power button until the console beeps a second time. This will usually force the ps3 to recognize the hdmi input and will bring up the menu to configure the AV settings.
If you just bought the PS3 use your composite cables that came with the system. Turn the PS3 on and go to the video settings, set up video input to HDMI. After you've done that plug your HDMI back into your PS3 and try turning it on. If that works go back to video settings and change the resolution to 1080p. If that doesn't work make sure your T.V. is on the same input that the HDMI cable is plugged in. If it is and still doesn't work try switching to a different HDMI port. If switching to a different HDMI port doesn't work try a new HDMI cable. If the new HDMI cable doesn't work then there is a problem with the port on the PS3 which would require a repair.
I would suggest you check if your PS3 is set up on going through the HDMI Cable. On your PS3's XMB scroll to settings -> Display Settings -> ANd from there go down to the one that says "Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr Super-White (HDMI)" and hit X and select the option Yes... That sets the PS3 displaying through the HDMI If you are already have done that I'm pretty sure you know you have to change the Input on your TV to HDMI... Take your remote and hit Input -> Scroll down to HDMI on the Input Source menu and hit Enter when you get to HDMI If the AV on your PS3 works and not your HDMI sounds like Display Settings issue... If you have done all that, that is strange if it still doesn't work. There are some people that are having problems with the AV Cable with the PS3, I tried this and it really does work. I switched from HDMI on one tv to a AV Cable on another and when I did that neither TV would display content from my tv. The fix for this is resetting your PS3, like on a iDevice you hold the home button and lock button, for the PS3 you hold the Power off button and the Eject button for around 10 seconds. This resets your PS3 into default video settings. Until it Turns on, Beeps, and Turns off. This should work.
I have noticed using an HDMI cable that with some of the newer tvs you have to set up the tv also to enable HDMI for a game system. Like you said before internet tv and blueray dvd player work fine. Try adjusting the settings on the tvs themselves. I have a 50in DLP mitsubishi, and had a very troubling time getting my ps3 to work on that particular tv set while it worked flawlessly on other sets. And what I had to do was enter my tv setup menu and then power on my ps3 with both my AV and HDMI cables connected, it would pick up the AV first. Then I would alter the video settings on the PS3 for HDMI, and unplug the AV cable. Exit the tv menu and then reenter it. Then I had to setup my HDMI port from the tv to game in order for it to work, where you can set options ar usually like cable/dvd/sat, and so on. Without my TV being set to game that way it would not work. Try this and see if it helps. Good Luck.
For sound use the Digital Coax in, if the PS3 has digital out. Most HiFi home cinema systems have HDMI with all channels audio through HDMI. Check cinema settings to configure input for hdmi audio, also check PS3 audio output setting options to include all supported audio type by your receiver. It's not just a plug and play. Both systems need to gor through a user setup process to make sure they sync and play well with each other.
which AV connection are you using? HDMI or the cable supplied with the PS3, If using HDMI, you have to set the PS3 visual settings to HDMI, to do this, use the cable supplied with the PS3, and have the HDMI cable plugged in. Then while using the cables supplied with the PS3, switch the settings over to HDMI, then change the TV's input selector to your HDMI and confirm the settings changes. Hope it helps take care
