My incoming fax issue was resolved when I enabled the answering machine function on my phone. All this time my answering machine was turned off. I have yet to send a fax. My model is the Canon Pixma MX452.
to stop the fax automatically switching to fax mode you have to set it to manual to recieve calls and dissable the fax, there should be an auto/fax and call mode, therefore when someone calls it will go to your voicemail, but that means that you will not be able to recieve a fax.
Normally auto mode, will first try the fax, if no fax is recognised it will switch to normal line ringer, then if no answer it should go to your voicemail if unanswered.
Well first thing is to call your own fax machine from a telephone at your location and make sure that it rings and answers....you should hear the tones in the earpiece of the phone you are calling from. If that works, go to your fax and try to make a "copy" on it to make sure it actually prints onto paper. Then get someone locally with a fax machine to send you a fax...make sure your machine answers and then prints the page out. If it wont print the pages out are the pages going into memory???? Maybe your machine is asking for toner or a drum???
On the keypad of the machine there is a choice for settings. You need to go into menu and scroll through to Fax Setup menu. ON this menu you will scroll through to AUTO ANSWER and it will give you the option of OFF or ON. YOu need to turn it to OFF. This means that if you want to recieve fax you will need to manually press start on machine when someone calls to send you one. Turning autoanswer on or off wont affect your ability to send faxes.
You need to set the machine up to AutoAnswer as follows per HP:
Receiving faxes automatically
If the Auto Answer option is set to
, the unit automatically answers incoming calls and receives faxes
after the number of rings specified by the Rings to Answer setting.
to turn on the Auto Answer option.
1: Setting the Auto Answer option
1 - Auto Answer button NOTE:
The Auto Answer button is lit when the Auto Answer option is turned on.
again to turn off the Auto Answer option.
your answering machine is probably picking up the calls before the fax try to use a separate number for the fax or just disconnect the answering machine and get someone to send a test fax to see if it works
Okay for starters, you need to check to see if that fax machine is automatically answering the phone when it rings. you can check to see if it is trying to recieve by call that phone number from another phone and listen if it answers and when it does, does it make a high pitched squelling sound that varies in pitch.
if it does then it should be working ok, if not then you must program your recieve mode to automatically answer.
you can also check to see if it's sending by doing the opposite: put a sheet of paper in the machine to fax and dial your cell phone or other number, when it rings pick it up and listen for the high pitch squeel, if it works then your fax is working properly.
