I have a Nikon CoolPix S8000. I have used it a while. When I last turned it on it said my Chip was unformatted and asked if I wanted to format it. I have a number of pictures on the chip and of course do not want to loose them by formatting. When I access the chip with a computer it tells me the chip is not formatted. A new chip works fine in the camera. How can I access my pictures on the rogue chip (SD Kingston 1GB)?

My Nikon Coolpix S8000 is out of focus around edge of photo but fine at centre, on LCD and downloaded pictures.

Try resetting the camera's options to factory default. I hope I haven't misunderstood your problem.

if your charging it by usb from pc make sure it is directly into the pc and not into a usb hub...some usb hubs don't provide enough power to charge it.

My coolpix s8000 will no longer charge, even when plugged into the usb cable.

Have you tried other outlets in your house? If the battery door of the s8000 is open, the charge will not go through. Depending on how much you've been using your camera, you may need to call up Nikon for their support team and ask to get your camera repaired, the battery may be dead and no longer holds a charge.

on the side of the card you have a little button and it has 2 position : lock and free. if the button is on lock position that may be the problem! so please check it and put the button on free position and try again!

Sounds like you've added images to the card using the computer or another camera. The Nikon doesn't recognize them and concludes the card is empty.

try formatting it w/ windows first the try it in the camera, if it wont work, the camera & your computer might be using a different file formats

Dear Bill,
It seems that your SD card is corrupted now, you cannot do anything to recover that. try formating it see if it works or not if no then all you need is to replace it with a new SD Card. or you can try out your local photo shops if they have any solutions.
SD cards are just like old Floppy disks, no one knows when they get corrupted.
