It is sony dcr-dvd105. i shot 5 minutes. if i finalize the 5 minutes, i basically lose the rest of the dvd, am i right? is there a way only finalize the 5 minute and transfer to pc and still be able to use the rest of the dvd. thanks

Something not latching is usually spring related. If you feel like taking it apart you can probably find out what is keeping it from latching.

The dvd drive may be getting week and needing to be replaced. Problem: that drive is so over priced right now at $432.00 that it is not worth repairing. I have access to several of those camcorders and would be able to finalize that disc for you. Just email me your information, dont forget the model number of the camcorder and send me the disc. If your cam has a firewire connection, you could plug it into the macbook and use iMovie to transfer the videos over. You can also get an external DVD drive to put those tiny DVDs into to transfer it over.

go to www.sony.com/dapc. type in the model number of your camcorder there and look for dvd application software.

There is 2 possibilities, either aperture of camera jammed and doesn't open or CCD Imager got defective in your Sony DCR-DVD105 camcorder.
Let me know if you have little experience of camera repair to guide you further.

i dont think that you can keep the menus from each mini dvd. but you can create your own dvd video with menu and at the same time you can merge all of your mini dvds. After you upload the mini dvd videos to your computer then use Nero 8 or 9 Software. On Nero look for dvd editable and browse your dvd videos then do as the instructions says to you. you should burn that with one DVD disc with menus of your own choice
