You install the cable wire into the box or antena into the box then the cable or rca cables into the tv. set the tv input to the right input (usually channel 2 or 3 for a cable) or input one for the rca cables then you need to hit the scan option on your converter box to scan for the channels and the tv to scan for the channels. please let me know if this works

How do I hook up Coby 5" black & white TV to my digital converter box ?

You will need a digital to analog converter which you can get at Radio Shack, Best Buy and most big box retail outlets or online. Your Coby is most likely analog and will require the digital signal to be converted to an analog signal from the digital converter box to the TV. UNLESS the digital converter box has analog (round connectors on the back) then you just need an analog RCA cable (which you can also get almost anywhere even your local CVS/Walgreens) to make the connection.

Insignia digital tv converter/indoor antenna no signal

Ok first I can save you some money. Take your "HDTV" antenna back. There is nothing different about the antennas needed receive analog and digital signals. If you got reception without your converter box, use the same antenna with your converter box.

Next let's see if there is a problem with the box. Hook up a television with the antenna. How many stations do you get? Now hook up the same television & antenna, but this time put the converter box between the antenna & the TV. Do not turn on the box. Now how many stations do you get? If the number is different, the box is not allowing the antenna signal to pass through. That is bad. You want your signal to pass through the box so you can still pick up stations that don't broadcast digitally. Some areas of the country will not be covered by digital stations from all major broadcasters when the changeover happens in Feb.

My suspicion is either you did not have the antenna hooked up to the converter box when you searched for channels OR you are in an area that is not yet broadcasting digitally.

I hope this helps you solve your problem. Thank you for using FixYa and feel free to add more questions here by using comments.

Can I watch tv on 1 channel while recording another?

Unfortunately no, unless you get a second converter box. You're using the converter box to select channels, and it can only be on one channel at a time. With a second converter box, you might find you need a second antenna too (so you can get a signal on both channels). And you can't program your VCR to record on different channels (since it can't control the coverter box to change channels).

(This is a case of history repeating itself. When cable TV was new, and most TV's and VCR's weren't cable-ready, you needed to use the cable company's converter box. The same problems came up then too!)

Hooking actual live coaxial from Cable Co. to Insignia Converter Box ...

Based on the specs that I have read I am going to say you cannot hook up cable to the converter. Best thing to do would be to call cable company that provides service there and see if it was turned off on the billing side they probably just didn't come out and disconnect from the pole. That might give you service but missing some features such as tv guide channel. Now some tv's have tv guide built into them and maybe in the move that feature on the tv was turned off it they were using it that way before. Here is what the specs say about that converter:

Use this digital-to-analog converter to convert digital TV broadcast signals to analog signals on analog TVs with antenna-based reception.

Trouble receiving local channels on TV using new Magnavox converter box

Your digital converter box probably does not have an analog pass through that allows the old analog channels to go through to the tv's analog tuner.
