Do I need a dvd cleaner and what kind

DVD cleaner is a kind of CD, which will have cleaning pads sticked on it. When we insert the disc in any disc player, this cleaning pad will come in contact with the lens of the reading head. As the cleaning CD spins at hing speed inside the disc player, it will wipe out all the dirt and dust, if accumulated on the lens. Thus cleaning of laser pickup lens occurs.
This cleaning disc can be boutght from most of the electronic spare part shops at your town. Even after using this disc, your DVD player does not reads any disc, its laser pickup assembly is faulty, and should be replaced. OK.

If the dvd player is old it maybe the laser pickup lens dirty you can clean the lens but you have to be very very careful if you do try put no pressure on the lens
get a cotton bud/q-tip and clean the lens very gently you will not see much dirt but lite cleaning will remove a film from the lens

LGRC797T Getting Stuck on INITIALIZE DISC?

Problem - You put the DVD recordable media in and it takes about 30 seconds before it identifies the disc and says Initialize Disc?

You click OK and it takes the full 2 minutes only to stick after 2 minutes and do very little but spin. Disc will not eject unless power is removed first.

Disc will read DVD's ok.

Solution - Clean the lens with a cotton bud and Isopropyl Alcohol very gently. Shine a flashlight onto the lens to see if the reflection is clean. If not the soft wood of a match stick with a small piece of clean silk can be used to rub the lens with as little pressure as possible.

The DVDR should read and the initialize, although it says will take 2 minutes, should jump to the end quickly and the DVDR+ sign appears in the corner.

(My problem first occurred after some painters were sanding in the house and the machine got full of dust, but the clean did not last long and it turned out there was a smudge on the lens which you could not see without the flashlight. Once it was removed the recorder was back to working order.

We have a Durabrand portable DVD player, the issue we have is once we place the dvd in, the screen reads loading, then reads no disc. We have tried several discs. Any free troubleshooting suggestions?

use a cd/dvd lens cleaner kit or if that does not work, you will need toopen lid, access the lens pickup, and clean the lens directly, using isopropyl alcohol with cotton sticks.
anyway if these all dont help you need to replace pick up with a new one. i recommend original spare parts as those sold on ebay mostly chinese production with low quality and durability.

kind regards

My Phillips DVD player does not read any dvd's and is not playing. Just stays on the loading screen

If your DVD player is older then 3-4 years is possible to have dust on the reading lens. Best way to clean very well the lens , is to open the player and clean manually with cotton stick wet in alcohol. Try to not push very hard on the lens when you clean it .

Player shows '' No Disc'' even when inserted with a disk

When player says no disk, even if the disk inside, and you hear a whirring and clicking noise when you insert a disk, that means that the CD lens is dirty or defective, and the CD drive cannot read the initial CD track, and returns no disk.

Try first using a CD cleaner disk, if that does not work, then you will need to take the apart the unit to clean lens with isopropyil alcohol and cotton sticks.

Disk error

That means that the lens are dirty, and the unit cannot read any disk.

Try first cleaning the lens using a lens cleaner kit (the ones with liquid cleaninc solution), like the one here :
Allsop Ultra Pro Lens Cleaner for CD, DVD and Game Consoles

Ifthat does not work, then you will need to access the lens inside theunit by opening the cover and accessing the lens pickup, and gently clean lens by using isopropylalcohol and ultra soft soft cotton sticks.

Here is how the lens look like:

No disk error

If cleaning with a cleaner disk and solution did not work, then you have to clean the lens directly.

Remove the cover and access the inside of the DVD, unplug power first.

Use soft cotton sticks and isopropyil alcohol to clean the lens, here is a picture of the lens pickup:

As usual do the job at your risk, if you want to call for repair you can use the number listed in the owner manual.

DVD 10

It either needs some cleaning to the lens, or it might be that the player can't make the switch to read DVD's. It's my understanding that the laser has to change it's characteristics depending on the media it's reading. I believe what the drive does is try different laser settings (such as beam size, and intensity) until it can read the media. Your player might have a fault with this feature. If opening the player chasis and brushing dust of the lens doesn't fix it, you should take it to a decent lab to get an estimate for repair. It might be minor, as some further cleaning, or it might be more critical, parts replaced etc. Good luck
