Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa.

Well, that worked perfectly. Turn on your Rebel XT camera and under Menu then Tools go to Communication and set it to Print/PTP. Thank you to all you very smart people!

Try launching iPhoto, then plug in the usb cable. Make sure the connections are tight on the camera end of the cable.

Mac book wont recognize my cannon elura 100

try the image capture utility. I hooked up my Canon XSi and thought the same problem (bad interface or bad cord) when it was simply not setup to open a program. Canons are notorious for forcing you to use image capture utilities on both mac and pc.

Switched to MAC - have EOS40D and SX100 - will not download SX100

Yes, you need to install the SX100 driver software as well. I wouldn't overwrite older versions of the Canon software, though, so do a selective install if you can.

Macbook is booting up, with sound but no display

Start up from the OSX CD. (Hold down the 'C' key during start up). Run 'Disc Utility' from the 'Utilities' menu. If the hard drive is recognized by 'Disc Utility', select the drive in the left hand column and run 'First Aid' to repair ant problems.
If the hard drive is not recognized or 'First Aid' fails to repair the disc, you will need to format the drive or even replace it and re-install OSX.

My Mac does not recognize my Canon HV 30 DV when i connect the FireWire.

I've been around the block with this for days, including a fresh installation of the software on my MacBook Pro. Sigh.

Here's what seemed to work:

1) Reset Vixia HV30 (tiny reset button behind the battery). Did not change any settings on the camera after that.

2) Installed Canon's software that dropped some canon-related files in Library/Quicktime folder.

3) Opened new iMovie 6.0.3 and Final Cut Express HD 3.5.1 projects (a) FCE (using Easy Setup in FCE) to Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60 (b) iMovie 'HDV 1080i'.

4) Connected 4-pin --> 6-pin firewire cable out of the camera to a bus-powered external drive and from the drive, firewire 800 --> firewire 800 --> MacBook Pro 10.5.8.

This was a last-ditch, Hail Mary effort. It worked, and the camera showed up in the System Profiler firewire window, too, whereas it had not before all of the above. Still does not show up when hooked directly from the camera to the FW 800 input, but at least I can capture now.

Transfering video to Mac

I believe that camera only works with firewire. You might want to check with Canon to see if there is compatibility problems with Macs. I know it works on Windows computers.

EOS400D Utility Error

hi
check on the canon website for updated software to install the utility

often new versions are released and are freely available to download off their site
look for your camera model and check the links to download

some new cameras sold today still dont have the applications shipped with the unit
the website is the best place for the latest versions

otherwise use a third party application to transfer the images
picasa by google does a good job too
