Like most of the posts ive read my emerson microwave wont shut off unless unpluged and now has a burning smell bought from wal-mart can i return it for full refund

That kind of damage would not likely be covered under warranty.

It's usually caused by accumulated moisture from spills or steam that is not wiped up when it occurs.

The area will first have to be sanded smooth and cleaned and dried thoroughly.

If the cavity metal of the oven is cracked or split, you can use a small amount of steel-based epoxy such as JB-WELD to patch the crack or hole.

Once that dries thoroughly, you can sand it very smooth.

Then you can apply some high-temperature appliance paint, available from places like Wal-Mart, Lowe's or Builder's Square.

Take it back for Exchange

Unless you can associate the odor with burning electronics, it probably isn't being caused by the microwave.

contact emerson @ 1-800-909-1240 option 3 is microwave. Make sure you have model number and serial number. We are having the arcing problem and burning smell. They will pick up check and replace.

buy a new one they are not expensive wal-mart has 1000w for about 80 bucks

Since it's less than one year old, it should be fully covered under warranty. I'd suggest contacting the manufacturer to get it fixed free.

This is the waveguide cover / stirrer cover.

Quite often this is due to grease or food particles stuck to the inside of the oven or stuck on or behind the waveguide cover.

It can be fragile, and the metal edges of the oven behind it can be sharp, so be careful!

The cover and the metal behind it should be cleaned with a mild, non-ammonia cleaner.

If the cavity metal of the oven is chipped or charred, it will have to be sanded smooth and clean and dried thoroughly.

Then you can apply some high-temperature appliance paint, available from places like Wal-Mart, Lowe's or Builder's Square.

If your waveguide cover is burned, it will need to be replaced. It provides important protection for the magnetron.

Most probably the fuse has blown out...You have to replace it..Dont worry it wont cost you much..If you need help locating the fuse feel free to ask..

The shelf supports will need to be replaced. It's best to replace them all. You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383 Before you install the new supports, you should clean the cavity squeaky clean in those areas where they mount. If any paint is chipped or charred, it should be sanded bare, then fresh high-temperature appliance paint should be added. That can be had from home improvement stores, or Wal-Mart, etc.
