I have a Cannon PC 140 copier. Recently, It began putting about a 1/4 inch thick black line on ever page I copy. What is wrong and how do I fix it?

Replace the drum/toner unit it should be sold as one complete cartridge.

rather expensive. you might check for a compatible or remanufactured cartridge

When making copies a solid black line (1 inch thick) prints on the top of left side of the page.

Is it From top to bottom? if it is, clean the optics unit, its lens array and mirrors.

Sharp AR-207 copier puts .5 inch black line across entire bottom of copy

does the line only show up when making copies from the adf or both when you put it on the glass. if only when thru the adf the **** glass is dirty. that is the glass that is only about an inch wide. be carefull of the two pieces of tape that are on both the front and back of that glass they fall off easly.

Thick verticle line on copies and scans

Sounds like the issue is with the scanner bulb. May not be moving across or warming up to full capacity.

Make sure the scanner is plugged in directly to the wall and not into a surge protector or a power strip. If problem is still there and you are in warranty you will need to replace the unit. If OOW then you should call and see if you can repair or upgrade the unit at a discounted price. If you want to speak to someone in English tell them you want mac support - they are in Canada.
