I have a 55,0000 Reddy torpedo heater. I just replaced the igniter. I tested with the top shroud off and it works perfectly. When I put the shroud back on, it will run for maybe 10 seconds and shuts off. I can run with shroud off and then creep up on with the top shroud and I can hear a change in airflow when I get within an inch or so of its correct position and it shuts down. Any thoughts on where I should focus my efforts?

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly
Download this manual:
http://www.bealsmotor.com/Desa%20Hot%20Surface%20Manual.pdf

You may have a dirty filter(s) or need to adjust the air pump. See page 7 of the manual paragraphs 1 and 2 for the Air and Pump system adjustments. NOTE the necessary gap adjustment of 0.003 / 0.004 at the top of the air pump. Also the air input filter is washable but the air output filter is not.

I think if you follow the troubleshooting on page 18 it will help you solve the mystery.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly
