Hi Christo. If you hear a tappet noise when the engine is started, and it goes away after a few seconds, if is not a very serious problem. What is happening is that you have Hydraulic lifters that maintain they're adjustment when the motor is not running. One of the lifters is collapsing. When you start the engine it pumps back up and works. Since lifters are at the top of the engine, you should that you use. It is called "Sea Foam". It is an excellent product to ad to the oil. It helps keep the engine cleaner and removes any moisture from the oil. It is great with hydraulic lifters. Just so you know the difference. If you have a sticking lifter, you will have a constant tapping sound. I have used Sea Foam to un-stick lifters successfully. IMPORTANT NOTE: A WORD ABOUT THE REPLACMENT OF THE KIA RIO TIMING BELT.
It is recommend that the belt be changed at 60,000 miles. I also recommend that the dealer do it. If the car is under warranty you must tell the dealer to replace it. If you do not tell them to replace it, THEY WILL NOT. If the belt breaks, it will DESTROY the engine. Hope this is helpful to you. Happy New Year Greetings, Mark
