My lg chocolate touch won't play music without earbuds. Texting works. The ringer for calls and texts works. i can't hear people when i pick the phone up.

The first solution would be to try to remove all the chocolate from the speaker. This may include opening the phone case and cleaning the speaker directly. Note, this will void any manufacturer's warranty.
Chances are that the speaker is no longer working at all. It has most likely been damage too severely. If you can handle using only the earbuds, than that may be the best solution. This model phone also has bluetooth, so you can use a bluetooth accessory as well. Unfortunately, it appears that your speaker is beyond the point of being saved.
It sounds like a failure in the earbud jack. Try plugging and unplugging a few times. If something got inside the jack, that could cause this issue. Shake the phone while you plug and unplug...
i have the same problem. its not the headphones. its the itouch. its something to do with the jack-i think. because whenever i jiggle the plug eventually i can hear some of my music eventually. its a pain. and so how do i fix that ish?
LG Chocolate is the worst phone EVER! i've already self-fixed two problems, and now a new problem that i cannot make phone calls / receive them (they do actually go through but i can't hear anything). someone please tell me how to fix this....
Maybe you accidently hit the mute button? Happened to me when I was playing music on the phone. I hit one of the soft keys and could not figure out why I could not hear the song. when I actually looked at it, that was the issue.
Also, you might want to note that there are seperate volumes for ringer and calls.
