How do i set up my dlink to work with my new laptop.currently it is conected to my desktop computer. trying to manually add my wireless conection. Need to know my Network Name(1-32case sensitive...

Your laptop should be able to automatically find the network name and security type. (You would have set up all of this, by the way.)
You should then type in your security key/password (you should have set this up when setting up router for first time, also) and then you should be connected to the internet.
Your laptop might not have wireless capabilities, so you might have to buy a wireless network adapter.

I don't kow that I actually have a problem. This

Right click on your wireless icon at the bottom of your screen and select View Wireless Networks. Your network name should have a lock next to it. If it don't then it is not secure.
or

Have someone come over with another laptop and try and find and connect to your network. If they get a box asking for a password then it is secure.

How do i secure my belikn from outsiders using it

Hi Friend,
U need to make your wireless network a security enabled network & don't share the wireless network key to a unreliable person.

Steps to create a security enabled wireless network:-

1> login to router setup page;bydefault ip address of belkin router is 192.168.0.1/192.168.2.1
2> Open a internet browser on a hardwired desktop/laptop connected to your router, clear the address bar completely and then type 192.168.0.1 or, 192.168.2.1<it depends on your model no of your router>
3> Go to Wireless Tab,changed the wireless network name(SSID)
4> Change the wireless network key as well;it will be good if you use WEP key if you old XP computer, otherwise use WPA-TKIP if you vista/win7 computers
5> Lastly on your computers, you have to seach wireless network name & give the wireless network key(for the very first time)

In case of any clarity feel free to contact belkin tech support

I have a network set up with this router WBR-1310 version 1.1 . When my son came over with his laptop he could not get it to connect, and now I have been trying to connect another laptop that was not set...

The WPA or WEP encryption key is configured/enabled in the router's wireless settings. The router's SSID, WPA or WEP etc. needs to be configured in the laptop's wireless card settings fir the laptop's to communicate with the wireless router.
Please click on this link for information on how to secure your wireless network, configure the wireless router and configure the wireless card in the laptops and follow my instructions :-

I have a cisco WRT160 router and have lost wireless to laptop

Change all the wireless settings of the router.
Change the SSID ( network name ). change the SSID something new that you never tried before. change the security to WPA personal.
change the channel to 6.
make sure the wireless MAC filter is disabled.
under advanced wireless settings change the beacon interval to 75.

Now on your computer try to connect to the new network name.

see if that works.
If that doesn't work then try to upgrade the firmware./

Unable to access linksys wireless router, with laptop, computer sees wireless link but still can't access it

Hello trinijazz,

To accomplish the setup of the router, you need to be using a computer that is connected directly, harwired, into the router itself. If you don't have two computers, use the laptop but connect it into the router using the ethernet port, and ensure that the wireless on the laptop is off.
Open up your browser window and Enter 192.168.1.1 in your browsers address bar, no HTTP or anything, just the numbers, and press enter. A login box will appear that is asking for a User Name and Password. They are both, in lower case: admin then click on Login. This will take you to the Linksys Setup screen.

You have tabs at the top/center of the screen.
1) Click on the Setup tab and verify that in the drop down box it is set to: Auto Configuration-DHCP.Then verify that the time zone at the bottom is set accordingly. Do not make changes to any other settings on this screen.
2) Click on the Wireless tab at the top. Set the Wireless Network Mode to Mixed
Then choose a Network Name. This is the connection that you will connect your laptop to wirelessly.
Set the Wireless Channel to 11-2.462ghz
At Wireless SSID Broadcast click on Enable
DO NOT EXIT THAT SCREEN
3) Directly above the box where you entered MIXED, click on the sub-tab labeled Wireless Security
Security Mode: WPA2 Personal you can use WEP but WPA2 is more secure. If your laptop has connectivity issues with WPA2, try using WEP.
WPA Algorithms: I use TKIP+AES
WPA Shared Key: This is YOUR network key. Write this down and keep it in a safe place or just remember it. You will need this when you try and connect your laptop wirelessly.
Group Key Renewal: should already be set to a default of 3600
Click on the SAVE SETTINGS button
The last thing I do is I go back through each page and if some changes weren't saved I fill in the appropriate information and click the SAVE SETTINGS button for each page. You shouldn't have to but it doesn't hurt.
Last but not least, go to your laptop ( I would recommend restarting it) and turn on the wireless. You should see your newly created network and after choosing to Connect To A Network, enter your Network Key and you should be good to go.
Hope this helps

Help please....printer name does NOT appear

You must have a network set up, and you must enable file and printer sharing on the desktop. The laptop and the desktop should be in the same workgroup. Some firewalls will cause this problem.
Start with the network setup wizard in Settings/Network.

Accessing through a new computer

Is the new laptop xp? or vista?

for these two pc, you can use the built in utility of windows dor wireless conenction. There you will only be asked one information. The wep key/ security key/ passcode/ (they both mean the same anyway) this is available in the User interface of the router . This is sometimes called the set up page, that if you access this page...it will give you all the wireless settings. the best person to contact is your router manufacturer. That is this is still under warranty for free tech support.
