Question about Panasonic PT-40LC12 40" Rear Projection HDTV

My Panasonic PT-40LC12 turns on for about 15 seconds with a normal picture and then the lamp shuts off and the fan continues to run. The lamp indicator flashes 4 times. Is it a problem with the lamp or possibly the ballast board

I DONT SEE HOW THIS COULD BE A POWER PROBLEM SINCE THE UNITS WORKS OK INITIALLY. I WAS TOLD IT MIGHT BE A PROBLEM WITH THE LAMP WHICH IS LESS THAN ONE YEAR OLD BUT IM NOT SURE OF THAT EITHER

Hi sbr7352,
Best that you have to test the ballast board for faulty parts, the problem is, this need to checked with an experienced technician because lots of parts in that board involved like the driver transistor, resistors, capacitors and of course the ballast itself. Easiest way is to swap a new new bulb like what the shop do, they have an spare bulb to test the board if functioning because there is a sensor once didn't detect the bulb connected to the ballast board it will be disable by the processor. If you want to fix it yourself then you have to buy a new bulb or if you can find a spare one much better. Also, bad solder joints must be consider because it will do the same fault like what you've encountered right now.

It may be not the fault to Ballast problem. It must be due to a power supply problem. Check the voltage comes to that board. Due to some loose soldering or bad contcacts, if the power to that board is interrupted, this type of fault will occur to all panasonic TVs. of your model. OK.

The power supply section of all modern TVs are digitally controlled. It will swith ON as we switch on our device, and go on, and when a problem in anywhere in the entire circuit is detected, it will be send to the main system contorl IC [actually a microprocessor] and it will give a stop command to the power supply, to prevent further damages. In your tV, this process is going on you understand.

Ballast booard is what turns Lamp on ,But if Lamp Fan is Defective it too will shut TV off.

Usually you hold Vol - on the tv itself and press and hold down the pip or split buttom for 5 seconds until lamp reset is displayed on screen set to 0 and thats it

I get blinking red light by the lamp on a pc-45lc12. the tv goes on for 15 seconds then shuts off

I would say you need to replace the lamp.

Lamp on Panasonic PT-40LC12 will not reset.

you may want to try to do a hard reset, the way you do that is, you turn your tv on, and unplug it while it is on, after 15 seconds, plug back in, should turn itself back on, if not turn it on, and see if it is gone, if it isnt gone, you will have to look online for the code to get into the service menue, there will be another reset in there, that should definatly get rid of it.

Brief picture for 30 seconds, then lamp button blinks

Found that the thermistor/temp measuring device is suspect, no resistance across legs. There is a label there that says F701 see service manual

it was mounted to the case that holds the lamp. had to remove the back panel, etc. Also think I had to splice in the fuse or something. was a while ago.

i purchased a NTE8115 from my electronics supplier, closest I could find. Radio shack also has them.

remove the back cover and measure for continuity across the thermal fuse
above the lamp housing.
if open jump it wth a 5 amp fuse, be sure to close the safety switch with
the small blue lever then try to power on.
If comes on ok you will need to replace the entire ballast assembly to get
that fuse.
Panasonic does not have a part number for just the fuse on the PT40LC
series.
It is possible to cut off the fuse and replace with another but dont solder

Television shuts down as if thermal problem, but cool

Shorted red driver trans shorted red pic tube defective focus/screen block any or all of these stk's on convergence module check the solder joints on convergence module
