Sounds like you have LED backlights that are going bad and the strips need replacing, its not a real easy job but if you watch some youtube vids they show how to do it.

Does the unit has sound, before it goes blank? 3. Does the unit goes black or white screen? 4. Does the symptoms remain the same in all inputs(when watching TV, DVD, game console, etc)?

There are two places to look for the problems, the backlight inverter board and the power supply. Look at the power supply first since it is easier to get to, look for burnt parts, bad capacitors, etc. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague Please post back what you find.
It really doesn't have a reset for the picture. I would be looking at the inverter and power supply. If it is four years old most likely it is the inverter. The inverter is on the left side looking at it from the back. Have a repair shop check it out for you. Thanks
Sounds like you dlp lamp is going out. That's a pretty old TV and if you are still running on the stock lamp this is exactly the type of thing that will happen. The lamp model for this particular tv is the ty-la1001. You can find that over here:
