When i turn the tv on the screen lights up, but that quickly stops. I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting all the cables but that didnt work (not that i expected it to) please could someone help.

Your backlight finally went out. If doing it yourself, you need to order 2 to 4 backlights along with an inverter. It is good to replace both at the same time. The backlights are like mini floresent tubrs that need to be taken out and replaced by some one who has done it before. The cost will run you about 50.00 if you do it yourself.
Take care
Kevin

Monitor light flashes green and screen is blank

Best thing to do, hook up another known working monitor to the computer and this will verify that the computer is working properly.

If you get video on the known working monitor when you turn on the computer then you know the computer has a problem.

Swicthed on tv and its a blank screen..now it wont switch off.

Can you see the menus on the screen?
Can you hear audio (sound)?
If you can hear sound but no menu we need to check the backlight.
Take a flashlight and shine it on the screen, look very closely at the screen.
Do you see a video image?

Let me know what happens, I can assist further.

Sony KDF-46E2000 - Screen Goes Blank

The lamp can cause the picture to cycle without spitting out a lamp error. I'd replace the lamp and clean out the dust/dirt from fans, etc to hopefully resolve your issues.

Sony KDF-46E2000 - Screen Goes Blank

You definitely have a bad lamp. Sony rates the lamp life at between 4000 and 8000 hours. There are 3 things that effect the lamp life, listed in order of importance:
1) number of times the lamp is turned on and off. Every time the lamp is first fired, it takes life off the lamp. Customers I see that turn the TV on in the morning, leave it on all day and then turn it off on the evening can get up to 12000 lamp hours
2) ventilation. Be sure you have at least 6 inches of open space all the way around the set and that the vents are clear of dust and debris.
3) power. If the power is interrupted when the set is on, there cannot be a proper cool down cycle. The fans will run after you turn the set off to properly cool it down, if the power is lost this cannot happen. If your power is unreliable, buy a small UPS to let the set finish a cool down cycle

Occasionally a lamp will faill before the average lamp time due to being defective. from your purchase date it sounds like you got about average lamp time. Be sure to purchase AN ORIGINAL SONY LAMP as a replacement, becuase the aftermarket lamps are bad news, Be sure to rate this solution. Thanks!
