"Volume knob not working on my onkyo tx-ds656" replace the volume knob but check the volume control IC first such as voltage and whether an analog signals come out by an oscilloscope.
and " lost remote " Check if the onkyo remote is working, by: (1)point a mobile or a smart phone camera at an onkyo remote control. (2)Don't take any photo. (3)Now the remote picture is on the mobile or smart screen. (4)Press any remote control key. (5)White flashing light can be seen if remote is ok. (6)If remote is fine, replace the remote senor on tx-ds656 with same part number.
The VM9312 has a volume knob on the unit's faceplate. Just rotate the knob on the left (a little below the optical disc D slot) clockwise to increase the volume. Turn it the opposite way to lower the volume. (If you have the knob set to the maximum volume and then lowered the volume with the remote, you may need to reset the unit; see below.) If you push in and release on this button, you press Enter or confirm a setting when you are in any audio settings menu.
If the volume control isn't working, check if the mute is on. Press once to toggle the Mute. The mute button is just below and near the right side of the optical drive slot.
If you still can't change the volume, check if you have the wiring correct and no shorted wires. Look for damage at the speakers (or evidence of mice chewing on the wires). Also check your audio balance. See the manual page 12 here: http://www.voxxintlcorp.com/docs/common/VM9312/VM9312_OM.pdf . You may also want to try a system reset. (Press and hold the reset button for a few seconds by using the tip of a ballpoint pen in the little opening at the lower right hand side of the faceplate.)
Hi,
If you can't get the unit to work without a remote and the universal remote isn't working, you can get a replacement for your Sony remote that is made for your CDP-CX153 model here: https://www.remotes.com/sony-p/sony%20rt147329911.htm
Zoom in on the picture of the original remote provided on the site (or look at your own) and get the actual remote model number.
or check eBay: search for "(model of the device or the remote) remote", check the 'include description' box. Usually cheaper than the vendors. http://www.remotes.com/
you can try programable remnotes using the hometheater code entries , but more than likely you will need to buy a factory replacement remote.
