Two things to check, 1- make sure the usb drivers are intalled and the usb ports are enabled and working properly in the device manager, and 2- go into the bios or set up at start up and see if there is an option to enable or disable the usb ports. If so, make sure that they are enabled. Let me know what type of jump drive are you trying to use, make, model,etc..? It could be the drive.

Drive not recognized and driver wont install

Check all your cables are attached correct and well.
The drive should hum/buzz/vibrate gently if no sound there maybe no power getting to it. If there is sound/vibrating coming from to drive check the USB is connected correctly...
If it is, disconnect the drive by the USB and update your drives and make sure you have the most up to date MS service pack.
Restart your computer to ensure all updates are installed.
Reconnect the USB lead from the drive (make sure the drive's power is on)
windows Should now automatically install the driver. (This may take a minute to start)

If worst come to pass and nothing works you can try rehousing the drive or connecting it directly to computer.

How do you put this into your computer does it pop up

First you plug it into a a USB port (you'll know what I mean since they're the only slots that will accept that device). Then it MAY pop up, but if it does not it will show up in My Computer, or in "Computer" depending on your operating system.

Go to Start then select My Computer, or go to the Start Orb and go to Computer if you're using Vista or Win 7.

Now that you're in My Computer or Computer, you will see a list of all of your drives. Your USB Drive is one of these (assuming your USB Drive is operating correctly).

Typically the drive that holds your operating system is drive C:\. Your CD/DVD ROM drive is drive D:\. and all drives added after that will be given the next letter in the alphabet, so your USB drive will probably be drive E:\.

Now if your USB drive is plugged in correctly, but it is not showing up in My Computer or Computer then you should probably download the latest Universal Serial Bus drivers for your motherboard.

First download and use a program such as SandraLite

http://www.filehippo.com/download_sandra_lite/

This is a hardware diagnostic utility. Install and run it and then under the Mainboard section your will find the model number and manufacturer of your motherboard. With that information you can go to their website and should be able to download the latest Universal Serial Bus drivers for your motherboard.

Hope this helps. If it does not, please comment back and let us know!

HP Pavilion zv6000: USB ports are inop. USB port on rear of computer works fine. USB port on left/front will power my flash drive, but the light stays on constantly. The flash drive is does NOT show up in...

After reading the description, I think you need to try updating BIOS and latest device drivers for USB. Because USB are getting power on that means there would not be any fault to from the motherboard.

So please try updating latest BIOS for your notebook.
If you can provide me the product no for your notebook and the operating system which you are using currently then I can find the one for you.

Otherwise you can also do the same.

Type in the product no. on www.hp.com. Then go to software and driver download page, select the proper OS and search in BIOS ROM pack available for your notebook.

I hope this will help.

Mouse jumps around hard to control

If this is an older wireless mouse setup with two connections to the computer one ps2(round plug) and another usb(flat plug) try restarting the computer with the usb moved to another port. Make sure the ps2 plug is securely plugged in to the correct ps2 port.

Need to plug in a data cable. need usb software installation?

Plug in the USB device, anyways.

If it works, the driver has already been installed.

If not, take the USB device back to the retail store where you bought it, and get them to demonstrate how to correctly configure and install the device, using one of their computers.
