First make sure all the cables are securely plugged in. By randomly, do you mean a set amount of time of inactivity? Try this. If that doesn't work, it may be time to replace your graphics card (or buy one) or time to buy a new monitor.
Good luck.

I loaded Windows 7 and now when I turn on the computer, the monitor says DVI input no input signal and goes to sleep. Can you help?

Do you have the correct driver loaded? Are you using DVI output on the computer? Is there a VGA output? If so, try using a VGA cable while you troubleshoot the video issue.

I have a HP vs17 monitor that keeps going to sleep. It will flash to windows when I first start and immediately goes into sleep mode. When this first happened, I had managed to make sure any sleep modes,...

trixieb1, It's NOT going to sleep mode. Use warranty if possible!! If that not option you will need to read about "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamps" and the voltage inverters that power them. Learn to do flashlight test when screen goes to black or blank n black!!! Read my fixya profile and those of other ccfl back-lit lcd monitor technicians. We already know what is wrong with your unit. And It is a VERY big problem for all LCD monitor manufacturers. Just do some reading before you do anything else. Good luck with the repair. 12fixlouie

I stoped the monitor from sleeping by going into the montitor's menu, management, then sleep. Turn on the never allow to sleep mode. We were having some of your mentioned issues with the icons and with the monitor not waking up. This fixed that. Now the computer will go to sleep and when started the monitor comes on instantly.

Hp w2207 monitor says no input when computer is turned on, then says "monitor going to sleep". computer is brand new.

try a different monitor, if the display remains blank on a known good monitor, then it is your video card.

Our monitor goes to sleep and will not come back on. The screen is completely black--no response from the monitor at all. HPw2207

Is the graphics on board if so try using a different graphics card to see if this solves the problem.

No DVi input, then computer goes to sleep

Hi publicworker,

I had a similar problem whereas my monitor went to sleep mode after a few minutes. I'm running an HP LP 2065 in dual mode with another HP flat screen. However, I did resolve the issue after resetting the output settings.

How to do that:
  • right mouse click on the desktop
  • select graphic options
  • output to
  • extended desktop
Maybe some changings/modification will help you too.
