My VN 1000 stopped working 2 days ago. The C drive works normally but the A,B,and D drives show no messages, however if I push the stop button it still shows that the correct # of messages and time have been used. If I try to record a new message, the counter indicates a new message was recorded but does not show a message being present if I try to play it . I have important messages on this recorder. Can I recover or transfer them?

  • webtv_net Mar 07, 2011

The point is that I need to recover the messages on the recorder- I have my daily schedule in there for months in advance, and I have my kids voices from when they were little, and I have notes from lectures. I can't reproduce this information so I need to recover it, even if I buy a new unit and transfer the mesaages somehow

  • webtv_net Mar 08, 2011

I tried the first and it made no difference, I want to try the second but I only have a mic and earphone jack on the recorder. Will this still work and if so I assume I'd use the earphone jack, but what kind of cable would I use- do they make a mini earphone jack and usb cable?

If you can connect your VN1000 and see it or access it from My Computer, as a Drive, then you can use Recuva to try and recover your files.

  1. Download and install Recuva.
  2. Open Recuva, the Recuva Wizard will open. Click Next.
  3. Select Other, unless you are only try to recover MP3 files, in that case select Music. Click Next.
  4. Now select In A Specific Location, click Browse and locate your VN1000's Drive in My Computer. Select OK. Click Next.
  5. Click Start to begin scanning for files to recover, or select Enable Deep Scan and click Start to begin.
  6. Hopefully it will find the files you are missing. If it does, you will need to copy these files to your Computer as a backup just in case your Memory is failing. Keep a backup copy of any recovered files, and then try and restore them to your recorder.
As an alternative, you could try running TestDisk on the drive, which is also free, but may recover more data. Here is a step by step guide to using TestDisk, as it is more complex than Recuva: http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Step_By_Step

I checked into the manual for the VN1000, and it looks as if it cannot be connected to the computer using USB. You will need to contact a professional data recovery service, such as:http://www.dataretrieval.com/ They may be able to recover the lost data for you. The next recorder you get, make sure it can connect to a PC just in case you have memory problems again. This way you can recover the data yourself, next time.

The software of the voice recorder is not working properly. Please erase all the recorded massages. The turn off the power. Take out any battery from inside. The idea is to reset the unit. If there is any factory reset button press it. This will solve the problem.

Then do not erase all the recordings. But try the other step I have suggested.

I have an HP Pavilion a4000. It just stopped working a couple days ago. Display just rolled up and quit. I've been through everything I know how to deal with. When you push the power button it

First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.
Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

I've purched the Olympus digital recorder VN-100 VN-2000 a few years ago. I've never really used it. But i recently need to..and for some reason it cant record. Everytime I push the REC button ,the red...

take out the batteries , push the reset button, then put batteries back and try again.

If still not working properly , then it probably should go back to Olympus, if you bought it a few years ago , its probably out of warranty.

You can buy a newer model like the vn-6200-pc , which has way more memory and more features for much much less then it will cost to repair the vn-100 or vn-2000 , f

Screen shows ERR. I changed batteries and tried

You're right..This happens often when one changes the battery. Here's what to do :
The ERR message can only be corrected by holding in the DISP/MENU and STOP buttons for two seconds, which results in ALL the material on the recorder being erased. It will say (FOR) for a few minutes while it is erasing everything, then will work again.

Olympus VN-3100PC Voice Recorder Problem

I fought with this machine for more than 9 months. And after playing with it today FINALLY got it working.

This is what I did:

Unscrew the faceplate. (Three screws. One is under the batteries).

Put the batteries back on.

Have the HOLD button on the normal position (down)

Press and hold the MENU/FOLDER button together with the STOP button

Press and hold the MENU/FOLDER button together with the DISPLAY button

You will see a GREEN light, then a RED light then a "FOR" message will appear

Press the DISPLAY button and after a few moments it will reset and ask you to enter the time.

GOOD LUCK. Let me know if it works for you.

HAVE A NICE DAY.

Error message

I had the same problem with my Olympus VN-5000. I found a solution, which appears to reformat the memory. Try to press the STOP and DISP/MENU buttons at the same time for about 2 seconds, and then the display should show "FOR". It will supposedly erase the whole memory, but will at least make the device usable again. I hope this solution works for your model!

Not Able to Record/Playback

can't record on the my Olympus VN-1000
+ I press rec button and it just shows rec in display (no recording time is shown ONLY rec)
+ there is no play back  or stop function

+ i can only stop  rec by removing batteries (stop or play will stop rec only ONCE - but there is no  useful function - such as play or stop or rec.)
+ I tried all trouble shooting tips in manual  with no effect
+  i cleaned the spring contacts inside battery compartment that interface with the  batteries
+ it was barely used - and has not been used for a 1 year ( no batteries were inside it )     it was inside a drawer
THANK YOU
