What is the alternative for this. I don't want to spend that sum for a 2.5 year old laptop. I have AMD Turion 64*2 tl-58(1.9 GHz) processor. help me. :(

The only alternative since the lap top has been diagnosed by the manufacturer is to purchase another lap top for the same price you would have to pay to fix an old one up. That way you get a newer lap top up to date and working so the money you will spend on the repair most likely you can get another one for this amount they want for the repair.

Or you can take it in and get a second opinion to make sure they are not pulling a fast one on you. Do not use the manufacturer this time for a consult use a local mom and pop place if you have one. By the time it is all said and done, you could have purchased one by then. Maybe for even less money than the original repair. Get a second opinion? Thanks for using FixYa! John

My HP laptop wont start up all the way. It looks like it might start up and then shuts down and does this over and over. My son used this hours and hours and never shut it down and left it on the internet....

You have a laptop that has suffered from a Faulty Video Chip Connection... It uses Cold Solder Connection as opposed to Lead Free Solder... the Cold Solder Will crack and create faults when over exposed to prolonged heat exposure, and will cause the laptop to Not power on, or cycle powering on/off, or Run w/ no video, or Other symptoms...

You will have to either Repair the GPU ( video chip) by reflowing or reballing....
Or you will need to replace the motherboard.

I sell a DIY repair instructional, I hold the Patent/Trademark on the Reflow Method for Laptop Video Chip Repair Method.which will allow you to Fix the motherboard Video Issue. http://www.diy-laptoprepair.com

But again, If Not Able to Repair it Yourself, then you are looking at Replacing the motherboard to correct the Issue because your video chip is Integrated on the motherboard and is Not Swappable..

Wont boot

In that case, looks like you have a faulty motherboard (video chip) chip-set. Remove motherboard from the casing and apply thermal paste. Also clean-up the whole board. I hope this will help you.

You need to look On the Recall/Extended Service List To See If Your dv9000 Series Is Listed... Go To The Link I Post Below,

Flip Your Laptop Over And Look For Your P/N......
then look on the list from the link I posted and see if Your P/N is listed in the DV9200/DV9300 Section... If it is there... You can send it to them for a free repair/motherboard replacement.... You will first have to contact them either by Live Chat or by Telephone and explain your Symptoms and that you found your model listed under the extended service list of recalled laptops....

If your laptop is Not Listed there... You Do not need to replace the motherboard, You can Reflow the Graphics Chip... You have a Faulty Nvidia Graphics CHip That has failed due to thermal damage...

THis involves complete disassembly of the laptop, removal of the motherboard... You'll need to shield all areas around the video chip.. Use Folded up tin foil... You'll also need to put weight on top of the Video Chip... Use a stack of 8 Quarters and Center them in a stack on the video chip... You will need a Heat Gun...(google it)... They cost about $15 US.... You will need to cover all plastic ports and connectors near the video chip... cover the CPU, cover the RAM slots...(use the foil)....
Turn on the heat gun, Set it to LOW... Hold about 6 inches from the chip and rotate clockwise in circles around the outer edge of the video chip, then concentrate the heat gun on the stack of quarters holding the heat gun about 3 inches from the quarters..Hold for 30 seconds, continue to rotate around the outer edge of the chip, slowly moving the heat gun closer, then pulling it away... (go no closer than 2 inches away from the chip... the whole process takes 3 minutes.... Do not overheat the chip... it's better to underheat it ans to have to re-do the reflow...

The goal is to Remelt the Solder Ball Contacts on the underside of the chip to re-make contact with the contact pads on the motherboard...

Make sure when you are done with this process that you thouroughly Clean the Heatsink anf Fan assembly!! Very Important!! You need to make sure no dust/debris are blocking the heat sink Cooling Fins... And that the fan blades are as well dust/debris free....
Reassemble entire laptop and Power on....

HP DV 9000 bad motherboard_will not power up.

It is fixable without having to replace the motherboard...
I repair these on a weekly basis, It's a common issue with All DV9000 and DV6000 Series Laptops...
Your Issue Is The GPU/Graphics Chip, The Chips have overstressed due to Overheating..
The Fix is to Reflow the Graphics Chip Back Down To The Motherboard..
Reflowing is the heating of the graphics chip.. either by infrared or by a heat gun.. The chip needs to be weighted.. Use 8 Quarters, place the Quarters on top of the center of the chip, Cover any plastic plugs on the motherboard, Cover the CPU, Cover the RAM area.. Use A Heat Gun, set it to Low.. Hold it 6 inches from the chip, Go in slow circles around the stack of quarters-pointing the heat gun at an angle towards the edge of the graphics chip.. very slowly move the heat gun closer, NO CLOSER THAN 2 Inches away!! then pull it back to 6 inches away after about 30 seconds (moving in circles around the chip the whole time)..
This whole Reflow Process will take aprox. 2 minutes..DO NOT OVERHEAT the chip, the chip needs to get hot enough to melt the solder balls on the underside of the chip.. 2 minute max on the heat gun will do fine.. Leave the stack of quarters on the chip for 5 more minutes after shutting off the heat gun... This will allow the chip to safely cool-without cooling too quick... Then make sure you have a good thermal pad between the chip and the heatsink/fan assembly... Reassemble and power on..

HP DV6500 will not boot

Motherboard is definitely bad then, you went thru all the steps that I would have done. Sounds to me like the voltage that is going thru the motherboard isn't being regulated properly cause some chips on the motherboard is bad and when there is to much voltage going thru then the laptop shutting off is a safety mechanism in place to avoid chips burning out on the board. Motherboard would have to be replaced.

Toshiba satellite A60 no boot

We can only assume that because the cd drive operates then the motherboard is operating in part, although, the southbridge chip may be damaged, as the northbridge works memory etc. Maybe it is that the processor is fried as there is no fan and the system then shuts down. Toshiba are probably half way there with the answer, unless; they investigated further and decided it was not the processor but the motherboard.
